In Search of Organic Turkey and Chicken Meat

    Hello!
We are in search of fresh organic grown and butchered turkey and chicken meat. Can anyone recommend us to someone? We live in Petaluma. Thanks so much!

Re: In Search of Organic Turkey and Chicken Meat

Hi, Turkeys take a long time to grow, so you probably won't find any fresh ones until November.

Check out a farmers' market for the chicken- just read the signs and make sure to ask the farmers. Some use organic practices and may have another type of certification, or no certification at all. At this time of year, the meat birds will be left over from last fall (unless they were grown indoors in a, ahem, larger situation). Farmers might also have stewing hens.

some places to check: Petaluma East Side Market on Tuesdays, Green String Farm in Petaluma, the market at the Veterans' Bldg in Santa Rosa today (Green Star Farm, for example), maybe the one at Luther Burbank Center today, and Sebastopol (Green Star again) tomorrow. Check on fb and the websites to see what vendors are usually there.
