Don't miss a show - they are each BRILLIANT!
This production counterpoints real life and 'religious'/spiritual life, and moved me to tears as (only) great theater sometimes does. Jude

THE CAST
BASED ON ACTUAL EVENTS, Romulus Linney's haunting memory play, set in the 1840s Appalachia, follows the missionary work of Bishop Ames, the Episcopal Bishop of North Carolina, who brings Christianity to a remote and untamed mountain valley. Accompanied by an ex-convict named Starns, and an orphan boy named Billy, the sometimes-overbearing bishop Ames tries to establish "order and decency" in the primitive, loose-knit rural community. However, the experiment is not without its trials as the missionaries run up against a skeptical local mid-wife, Juba, a hot-tempered mountain man, Harlan, and Harlan’s tough-as-nails wife, Cora.
