Swap tickets for Dr. Martin Shaw?

    Location:  Sebastopol Grange
We have a pair of tickets for Sunday afternoon, but something has come up and we would dearly love to swap our Sunday tickets with someone who has Saturday's. Anybody? Please? Contact Conrad & Elizabeth at [email protected], or call 707-332-1574. -- Elizabeth Fuller

I am the Event Coordinator for Dr. Martin Shaw at the Sebastopol Grange (a Benefit for the Grange). We still have some tickets left for Sunday, for those who don't have them yet!

We will gladly refund your tickets, if you're not able to make the swap. There is a link to click on in the Eventbrite email you received confirming your purchase.

There is a waiting list for Saturday, if you'd like to be informed of any refunded tickets for that event. It remains Sold Out!

Saturday, June 1st is Sold Out! Now you can get tickets for the Sunday Matinee on June 2nd!

    Tickets Here:

Dr. Martin Shaw is a storyteller and mythologist, and a wilderness rites-of-passage guide. He has been described by Robert Bly as “a true master” and as “one of the very greatest storytellers we have.” He is internationally regarded as one of the most exciting new proponents of the mythic imagination. His work has been described as “visceral and imaginative”...finding “wildness in both language and landscape, using myth, philosophy and poetic leaps as a crossroads between the two.” Shaw tells “prophetic stories”…stories that speak deeply to the challenges we face today, in the world and in our personal lives.

Martin's new book is called The Night Wages. In it, he says he has included "enough folktales, myth and personal reflection to bring directly into the raising of a family, sustaining a small holding, sitting out a stretch in prison, making theatre, challenging the political climate, or engaging in activism in its many different shades. I’ve gathered up the things that have literally saved my own life, and for what it's worth I’m offering them here."

    About this Event

Martin Shaw is one of the country’s best-loved storytellers and the leading teacher of myth of his generation. In troubled times it can be easy to fall into either despair or numbness, and it was a traditional role of the storyteller to rouse awareness of beauty and vocation in such moments. To attend to the grace. In this electrifying evening, Shaw will be bringing myths that remind us of love, grief, and the mysteries. To provoke our humanity. He will also be talking about his new book, The Night Wages, a rumination on the vitality of ancient stories in modern times.

    ABOUT MARTIN SHAW

Dr. Martin Shaw is the author of the award-winning Mythteller trilogy (A Branch From The Lightning Tree, Snowy Tower, Scatterlings). He founded the Oral Tradition and Mythic Life courses at Stanford University, whilst being director of the Westcountry School of Myth in the UK. He has introduced thousands of people to mythology and how it penetrates modern life. For twenty years, Shaw has been a wilderness rites of passage guide, working with at-risk youth, the sick, returning veterans and many women and men seeking a deeper life. His translations of Gaelic poetry and folklore (with Tony Hoagland) have been published in Orion Magazine, Poetry International, Kenyon Review, Poetry Magazine, and the Mississippi Review. Fresh for 2019 will be his new book, The Night Wages, and his Lorca translations, Courting the Dawn (with Stephan Harding). Followed by thousands on social media, the small film on his work created by director Bobby Bailey attracted over half a million views. His essay and conversation with Ai Weiwei on myth and migration will be published by the Marciano Arts foundation in early 2019.

"An outrageous piece of magic." ~ David Abram, author of Becoming Animal
"A web of wild intelligence." ~ Rosie Boycott, The Independent
