spreadsheet wanted, though not for numbers

    Hi all.

I need to keep track of work with about 6 categories, including dates, times, locations, venues, names, phone, emails, deposits, etc. - and want a simple spreadsheet to do it on a mac. ones i've found are accounting.

i appreciate your recommendations. thanks! jude

Quite honestly, I believe you're looking for a database program rather than a spreadsheet program. Filemaker Pro is a really solid program that is commercially available. Hope this helps.

I LOVED using FileMaker Pro when I was a pro ... but it costs $ to buy and involves a learning curve, tho its a great database program. Am now using AirTable ... cloud-based, free for the training version (plenty robust for my own non-professional needs) and SIMPLE ... delightful. I'm so happy to have found it. Just search for AirTable Database and you'll find it. There's plenty of tutorial and help information. Just requires some figuring out! But, IMHO, not as much as FileMaker requires.

Quite honestly, I believe a database is overkill.
A database (on a very simplistic level) is just a bunch of linked spreadsheets.
She could likely do this for free on Google Docs or a similar free online spreadsheet program.
Additionally, I would never pay for a database program when SQL is free (pending this isn't a high security item).

Yes FileMaker is pricey. However if you have an iPad, you can get FileMaker Go which is free. But it means getting someone to develop a database for you. I've developed several for my own use. It's handy to be able to carry data with me. I use FileMaker extensively. I have looked at Airtable. It's actually great for many of the database needs people have. I would recommend it.
