    Hope

    Hope

    The actions of those who are unconscionable,
    Many country leaders,
    So defile the world
    with cruelty, greed, insanity,
    Lack of humanity toward living beings,
    I fear that even the wild night winds
    Cannot cleanse
    This dark force from the earth.
    Yet the sweet scent of morning dawns fresh
    Each day I place hurt and anger
    in the fire of forgiveness,
    open the blossom of my heart
    to love.
    I offer prayers and songs of praise
    For the beauty of the twisting oaks,
    The harsh cries of the fox and geese,
    My lover’s bright smile.
