Hello fellow West County Folk,
Just wanted to create a public discussion regarding the proposed Dutra Group Rock Mine on the Dante Calvi Ranch, 1001 Bay Hill RD. Bodega Bay.
We out here on the coast are unified in our statement of "NO QUARRY ON THE COAST" -protests t.b.a.-
Some of the community's reasons @: www.savebayhill.org
1) The Dutra Group is from Marin County, and most of the rock and profits from mining willl be taken out of Sonoma County.
2)Blasting, heavy truck traffic and harmful dust clouds will reduce local private property values as well as damage the coastal tourism economy.
3)This land to be destroyed is habitat for Federally Endangered Species such as Steelhead Trout, Red-Legged Frogs, Native Plants and Avifauna.
4) Only 2 miles upstream of Bodega Harbor, the land in this area is already damaged by overplowing and poor land management circa 1910, and during winter storms runoff carries silt into the creeks, bays and the Cordell Banks National Marine Sanctuary; polluting critical habitat, and damaging sport and commercial fisheries. This quarry would only further the damage, as any investigation into the Hagemann Ranch(Cheney Gulch) Quarry will show that silt spewing out of the quarry actually blocked Coast Hwy 1 before flowing into Cheney Creek and Bodega Bay.
All of this has been overlooked until now, and it is up to us as citizens to take a proactive role in watching and safegaurding our homes and environment.
PEACE
