the only appointment i've found is a week from now and $125.
any suggestions for cheaper and sooner most appreciated.

I remember reading some time ago that there are dental repairs that we can do ourselves, and re-commenting a crown is one of those. There are many online sites, but you might want to check this one out:

In the meantime (and I hope you don't have to wait too long), try cementing the crown with denture cement, available in most drug stores. I've used it in the past with temporary crowns that have come loose and it works pretty well as a short-term fix.
