Persimmon lovers~ An abundant tree in Ragle Park is ready for harvesting

I seem to notice some things that others miss, and that may be my photographer's eye. But at the Wacco picnic on Sunday near the gazebo, I saw that we were gathered under an abundantly laden persimmon tree, which has already started dropping it's luscious fruit. Some of it is on high branches, and a ladder will be needed, and/or a long poled fruit picker.

If you have had an "unripe" persimmon in the past, and were turned off, I hope that you'll re-consider trying a "ripe" Hachiya persimmon, which is soft and plump, like a water balloon. I like to ripen them by letting them sit on their blossom ends. It usually takes several days, if they're hard.

By the way, their blossom ends are very beautiful when dried, and can be used for many craft items. I first noticed them when I came upon a tree that had dropped fruit that rotted, and left behind these lovely treasures.

These persimmons can be used in so many ways: bread, cake, cookies, smoothies, etc. They can be frozen in baggies for a popsicle treat, smoothies, or future creations.

I hope that some of you can harvest these before they fall and rot.
