too late, I saw it.
I agree with your sentiment up to the point where you think the discussion may have crossed the line. It crossed some lines, sure, but the line for 'acceptability' is a bit further ahead (imho, of course)

Dear Jim, I was not offended. You made some excellent points even though I don't agree with you regarding lines being crossed. I loved your post and I love you. Would love to share a warm, cuddly hug with you someday. Careful, though, my love is a tiny bit on the gay side. I'm in the "One" category of the Kinsey Scale.
I agree that it is in poor taste to celebrate another human being's death, even though we have done that many times with people like Hitler and Bin Laden, just to name a couple of examples.
Furthermore, why is it usually (certainly not always or exclusively so) that the Right Wing seems to have a type of "White Privilege" or a pass on saying filthy shit like celebrating someone's death? Those people need to know that two can play at that game because they behave as if they have exceptional authority to do and say whatever nasty things they feel like, perhaps because they believe they have an obligation to maintain and protect the status quo regarding morality, politics and everything else.
The "left wing" or progressives/liberals really try too hard to take the high road; all you have to do is look at every time conservatives, reactionaries, and religious fanatic tyrants have nationwide outbursts when a Democratic political figure has a sexual tryst (Bill Clinton & Monica Lewinsky) but then STFU when one of their own has HOMOSEXUAL trysts while that same Republican officeholder (or religious leader) hypocritically and publicly denounces the LGBT community and passes laws castigating gays or preaches against them. All the while, the left maintains the high road and gets the living crap beaten out of it by conservatives on full throttle. It's as if the left enjoys a sort of political and social BDSM as we simply stand there like human punching bags, obliging our sadistic, conservative enemies.
The "left" here in the U.S. has always inhibited itself, relatively so, in taking to the charge of publicly denouncing the Right Wing's sexual and other types of hypocrasies. (This unfortunate reaction on the part of the 'left' emboldens the Right Wing into affirming that their vitriol is justified because they are "morally superior" and the left cannot reproach them because of it.)
The Right Wing needs to know they are not only full of crap but that the left can use the same weapons they do ("two can play at that game"). But the left/progressive/liberal/moderate camp almost always takes the high road because we don't feel that a person's sex life (and many other issues) should be checked by society, where as conservatives/reactionaries/religious people do.
You can see the extraordinary high-mindedness of the progressive (for short) community right here on Wacco responding to my thread by very strongly and consistently reprimanding me for my post, "Scalia Dead! Hooray!"
Additionally, you can see the strong, vitriolic and hypocritical replies from Wacco's resident reactionaries at the beginning of this thread. My goals were achieved, along with a surprisingly lively, long, and crowded participation from Wacco's largely intellectual members.
Lines were not crossed but you are certainly right to express your sincere opinion that they were. It is precisely edgy, provocative, and even "offensive" commentary and issues that get people's mental juices flowing and the fruits of public discourse become abundant with the ensuing enlightenment of why Scalia was such a fascist scumbag whose death has made this a better world. BTW, Scalia probably suffered from reaction formation, the same condition that Anita Bryant suffered from when she was persecuting gays back in the 1970s: she herself was likely a lesbian or bisexual, a condition of which people are normally consciously unaware. Scalia was most likely a bisexual or even a gay man himself, just like most conservative politicians and clergymen. (Most human beings are somewhere along the spectrum of bisexuality; see the Kinsey Scale, created by sex researcher, Alfred Kinsey) Most healthy, well-balanced, secure heterosexual men don't give a shit if another man is gay!
The Right Wing has their Donald Trumps and all of the other GOP candidates, their vast clergy, and many other actors who regurgitate their pig vomit all over us on a daily basis. I gave them a microscopic taste of their own medicine and they don't like it one bit, as the small handful of conservatives here have very clearly expressed. Good! They need an education in more ways than one and I have been very satisfied to give it to them, much to the shock of the greater Wacco Community.
