What can we expect from Lance Armstrong's interview with Oprah?
Lance Armstrong is in the news this week, as he sat down with Oprah for an interview that will be airing tomorrow. Here is a brief sample of Lance's handwriting, written on a book he authored. So what can we expect from this interview?
Lance Armstrong is very focused (straight baselines), strongly driven and motivated (vigorous tightness of writing along baselines, right tending letters), narrow left margin and extending lower zone letters indicate he hangs on to his past (coming from humble beginnings, father left when he was two, he was adopted by mother's second husband, Armstrong is his adoptive father's name), this past might be what pushed him to compete hard to ensure that he will do better than what he came from, wide top margin (and wide spaces between words and lines, as well as blunt endings of words, straight slant of letters) indicates that he does not warm up easily to others/ strangers, tends to be stand offish and distant, writing taking over page - tends to dominate, be in charge, take over, be controlling, simplified writing with bluntness and exclamation marks - he is intelligent, means business, not accommodating, knows what he wants … wide right margin indicates he can stop himself instead of going all the way, and with the crossout on middle zone letters in mid signature - he will self sabotage and cut himself short… the irregularities in his writing (size letters, spacing, uneven margins) misplaced capital B in "Best", and the simplification of form - indicate he can be defiant, wants the freedom to do as he pleases, call the shots, set his own rules, is quite creative and thinks outside the box, the large middle zone letters, writing spread on page, large signature indicate he has strong ego needs and a desire to get attention and feel important, the ambiguous and scribbled signature indicates that what you see is NOT what you get…
To sum it up, Lance Armstrong is on a damage control mission - to somehow preserve his legacy and protect his ego and his sense of self importance. He will not be comfortable being vulnerable, over exposed or weak… he will do what he can to give what happened a more positive spin and he won't shy from manipulating and recreating history, as lying is not a problem for him. I will not expect to have him pour his heart and spill all his secrets, I would expect him to be guarded and give out what he figures will get him the best results, probably while trying to control the interview.
