Bumper Sticker to stop CVS/Chase
I see Peace Voyager is up working at 2:30 am as well... (nice website). Now that I've had a little time to reflect, it seems pretty clear to me that a hub and spoke model works best for the bumper sticker....
This will allow different groups to be represented in one place and to add our political candidates as we get closer to election.
Give your ideas for bumper stickers NOW. You've got til August 27th (Monday to submit) and we will vote that day.
Here's the website: https://movemoney.org
Here's some ideas for stickers, some better than others that will help you get over writer's block!
Chase CVS out!
Local resources staying local
Stop harassing us Chase/CVS, the 99% don't want to do business with you
Mega-corporations don't belong in Sebastopol
A loan shark and a drug dealer in the middle of our town?
Harassment is bad business
CVS/Chase/Armstong, Welcome to Sebastopol. Now LEAVE!
The hub spoke! movemoney.org
Connecting the conscious community (not the 1%) (sound familiar Barry?)
See you Sunday!!!

Re: CVS/Chase - After the approval with conditions
Regarding bumper sticker design.....KEEP IT SHORT, POTENT, AND READABLE!!!
When I used to be in the print design biz, customer would bring their bumper sticker ideas to me, and I would take their concept, go outside and tape it to their bumper, so they could see that it wasn't really readable unless you were only inches away, which means only the car behind you, if that.
Also, VERY IMPORTANT, is that the letters and the background provide good contrast. (dark letters/light background or light letters/darkbackground) Block letters, no fancy fonts!
I know time is short, but experiment with it. Type it out, print it, and tape it to your bumper. Walk back
a car length or more. Is it easy to read?
Personally I like "CHASE CVS OUT

LOL! Yeah that's why I trim posts too! The main reason even the long stuff there was just to get brain's stimulated on the topic. ....as Barry suggested in a private email.

Re: What does the CVS/Chase issue tell us about handling future issues?
I am perplexed that having the option of a popular veto over major planning decisions is considered so bad an idea given the supposed belief in citizen involvement that exists in this community.
Many years ago I worked with some other Sebastopoleans such as Jim Coconas and Dan Smith over the enormous O'Reilly development that went in on the north end. We urged it be more centrally located (for example where the new development is going up next to Morris Street. I was told by O'Reilly's architect that large developments were impossible there and made the mistake of believing him. As we now know, it was apparently a lie. The plan allowed for the O'Reilly development and it happened without the possibility of citizen over sight.
Town plans are essential but they have been and will continue to be manipulated. Given that fact a citizen veto option will
1. Make sure that developers consider the community as a whole when designing their projects.
2. Strengthen the actual intentions behind the plan, intentions that can often be undermined with sufficient money and legal skulduggery.
The very existence of such an option would reduce the number of instances where it might be considered desirable and, in those instances, not exist.

I think Gus's idea, as are his marvelous drawings, wonderful to think about but not advisable to implement. I agree with Ted that in matters as complex as CVS and NEAP, public hearings are useful for consensus, as would be initiatives, but projects really need to be structured to comply with our General Plan, the update of which takes lots of people, lots of facts, yes, even opinions, but is really scrutinized for unintended consequences. Just as our experience with NEAP and the current project have been. In other words, public discussion is good to point out what should not happen, but General Plans and Design Review Guidelines shepherd what must happen, I hope others will join this discussion.

Re: Bumper Sticker to stop CVS/Chase
As the originator of the phrase Chase CVS Out, it's a pun, a double meaning twice the 'spell'ing power, if you know what I mean! So why put it the unfunny way (CVS Chase out)? also, keep it simple, no need for "of downtown Sebastopol" After all they're not there now and don't ever need to be and that way we can share the design with every other town they're trying to put the screws on.
Also, no need for a slash mark between Chase and CVS, it puts a damper on the pun!
I would leave the circle slash thing off too...
just spent two cents but it was worth it!

Re: Bumper Sticker to stop CVS/Chase
Point taken on the Chase CVS Out ( I think I missed the pun at first :duh: )
I think a reference to "Downtown Sebastopol" is important since that's what it's about. I don't think sharing the design is an important consideration. Having it be local is more important.
I like having their logo's there, both because it is more eye-catching and to be clear since Chase is being used as a verb.
I think it's time for someone (La.Sereniti?) to take on this project! Finalize the design. Solicit seed money? Get them made and distributed (for a $1-5 donation?). I'm guessing they'd move quickly at the farmer's market! Perhaps some downtown vendors would take them too.
Here's a couple of more designs options:

Re: Bumper Sticker to stop CVS/Chase
I hope the decision will be made by a vote. The second design has too many colors, which is really un-necessary. I'd stick with black background and red letters. This is a project that calls for the KISS
principle.
This is the kind of creativity that I used to deal with in my business, and the best way to make the point is to print it out in the colors you want, in the bumper sticker size and tape it to your bumper, and walk away.....a couple of car lengths.
It's even better if you have someone read it who's unfamiliar with the project....see if they get it.
It's really a great way to test it. It's called "market research". I could have just taken the orders from my customers the way they wanted them, but I was interested in having the message be clear and understood. I didn't like to see small businesses wasting their money, and they appreciated it.

Re: Bumper Sticker to stop CVS/Chase
Hi Barry and community,
I will take responsibility for printing and use a reputable printer (suggestions welcome). I welcome donations to pay for costs... In fact actually let me get back to you on that. I don't want any donations personally and if we are lucky to have an excess from cost, I want it to go to the legal fund.
Let's give creators a chance to come up with a design... I might even throw one in the mix for fun. All the prior suggestions were just to get thoughts going.... some of the phrases of course were ridiculously long.
Shandi is so right about printing out and putting on the bumper. The print process can screw things up too. So any complex color schemes risk being rejected.
Glad to see Magick show up.... aren't you the marketing gal with the pretty purple business cards?
Well... I have more news to share, but it has been a busy day. My burned RV is headed off to auction tomorrow. Just had dinner at 10:45pm.
Please keep bringing ideas... I've had a few that will make you laugh probably....

Re: Bumper Sticker to stop CVS/Chase
I realized after reflecting on one of suggestions below that I might be alienating some really nice people.
Just because someone is worth over $20 million does not automatically make them bad. Many get their money without abusing others and robbing the "system".
....Think about Robin Williams for example. That guy is my hero. He worked hard to create performances we enjoyed and in his off time he still worked... He was never really off.... And look at the long, long history of movies that had an impact on our spirit and our humanity.
And then George Lucas just pulled a rabbit out of his hat after fighting with the planning department for over two DECADES and decided to give up on putting in his movie studio. He decided to DONATE the property for affordable housing.
So ...not all of the 1% is bad... but when they do misbehave it can have massive impacts on a lot of people.

Re: Bumper Sticker to stop CVS/Chase
Here's another hint from my previous business days....get several quotes on the bumper stickers. Print prices are all over the board. Get quotes on different sizes and quantities, once you are sure of what you want.

Re: Bumper Sticker to stop CVS/Chase
I have contacted Sprint Copy center. Thanks for the suggestion via a private reply.
***********************
Sprint, Main Street, right here in Sebastopol. Family run. And the staff are there long time, indicating good relations. They've always donated time and energy to the community. They're the ones, in my opinion, to make the bumper stickers.
Your entrance into the discussion has been very welcome!

Re: Bumper Sticker to stop CVS/Chase
I like it; but would like to see the biz names reversed. Prefer the black/red design. The Green is hard to look at.
:waccosun: Dian is right, Sprint is a wonderful local business which does give back to our community in many ways.
I'm not sure they print bumber stickers though.
Here is another resource my friend Gabriel owns in Arcata: www.peaceproject.org
He has been doing this a long time and supports many good causes as well.
If you do use them, please let him know I sent you.

Re: Bumper Sticker to stop CVS/Chase
A seed of mine to cast into the wind, for either planting or drying up --
I keep imagining many different bumper stickers as another strategy in and of itself. Instead of ONLY ONE "best one."
Imagine unexpectedly encountering an assortment of sparsely-worded, quizzical variations on the same theme flying around town: "blah blah CVS and Chase" -- "Gosh, why do i keep seeing CVS and Chase appear on different stickers...that I don't really understand the meaning of ?? Hmm...A lot of different types of people must be concerned about something important -- so, what's afoot ?-- I wonder what is really going on with CVS Chase thing?"
Flash mob in the form of bumper stickers ?? Perhaps too naive, but I do like a flash mob idea as a deep public communication tool -- in general.

Re: Bumper Sticker to stop CVS/Chase
Hailing from Kansas... That was quite a surprise! Glad to see you here.
Your synonyms for CVS were a very unique contribution and I'd like to see ((((ONE)))) good solid one. If not, I might be left to try and figure this out for you (which isn't my preference). "C onvict V iolates S ebastopol"
Or the group can pick up from here based on that concept??
Here's the rest of that train of thought
Just Brainstorming...As such, Reuse, Reduce, Recycle as desired.
CVS SUCKers? C onvict V iolates S ebastopol CVS - Poor Health! CVS -
Size 18 Vent CVS! Uncool! CVS- The Inlaw Who Stayed CVS - Clinging
Vine C ome V eto thi S CVS Vetos Verve CVS- Corps Chase Town CVS
Chases Void CVS - Crate N Void CVS - Who Needs this Crap?
As for the mob mentality and bunches of different stickers,... I'm not a great fan of chaos and confusion. KISS and it will be easier to deal with and fund at the lowest cost.
There was another unique contribution received, but I need to do a graphic for him.

Re: Bumper Sticker to stop CVS/Chase
It is going to take over a week to get these printed so we need to move up the deadline to this Friday the 24th at noon. Vote occurs that afternoon and order will be placed by 3:30pm.
We want to have members in the community involved with the design of the sticker. A couple suggestions have been received. So far it seems unanimous that "Chase CVS Out!" is the favorite phrase.
Guidelines: 3x8 inches. The printer said we can get the best pricing if we stick to 2 colors (yellow and black). Each color will add another 10-20 cents per piece. The quote is $1 a piece. If we get 500 stickers the cost will be 60 cents per piece.
If you would like to donate money for printing costs please fill out the form below and then click the Paypal button that is provided on the following page.

Re: Bumper Sticker to stop CVS/Chase
When you only have a small space to communicate a thought, (a 3"x8" bumper sticker) and want to avoid confusion, use the least amount of words possible. No graphics are needed, really.
If we had lots of money and time, we could play around with concepts, and print a bunch of stickers, but the reality is that we don't.
I imagine that when the stickers are distributed, a small flyer will accompany them as an educational tool for those who don't know what's going on, which could be the majority.

My bumper sticker is in 2 colors--red and black. I know they said yellow and black, in my opinion red meaning stop might be more visible. As an experienced graphic designer, I can say red is the most visible--stop signs and lights...

Re: Bumper Sticker to stop CVS/Chase
In my professional opinion, there's too many words; and red can fade out more easily if not set in black.
My vote is for Magik's design: red letters on black background:
CHASE CVS OUT
of Sebastopol

Re: Bumper Sticker to stop CVS/Chase
There are many ways to "help" with this bumper sticker project:
1. Donate for printing
2. Attend the scheduled meetings
3. Assist with distribution of bumper sticker and informational flyers
4. Spread the word in your personal circle, and beyond
5. Boycott CVS and Chase, and ask others to do the same
There may be other ways, but this is a good start.
