Town Hall Notes: Summary of topics

Here's a good summary of the topics that came up at the January 9th Town Hall meeting put together by Jeff Aitken, who was one of the facilitators of the Open Space process - Barry

How shall we keep our focus?

National Occupy Focus:
> foreclosure crisis
> big bank divestiture
> move to amend: corporations are not people
> social security and Medicare
national default day and global jubilee
> money reform and debt as occupy issue
> end predatory lending
> end the fed
> public education equals democracy


Movement Strategy/Tactics Focus:
> nonviolent nonconfrontive revolution
> forming strategic alliances and coalitions
> still important to occupy public spaces?
> energy filled actions
> the police
> racial diversity in occupy
> conversational shift


Local Occupy Projects:
> free community learning center
> thriving project
> harmony festival and occupy
> transition Sebastopol
> north bay reoccupied press
> disenfranchised in the media
> purchase Fellini lot?
> affordable alternative housing
> public safety

Let's not forget discussion on the importance of racial and ethnic diversity.

Most of the topics fit well into one of the three categories that emerged as I sorted the topics; but some, like racial/ethnic diversity in occupy, can surely fit in all three categories instead of just one.
