Bank Transfer Day Nov 5: Move Your Money From Big Banks to a Non-Profit Credit Union
Bank Transfer Day Nov 5: Move your money from big banks to a non-profit credit union or local bank
alpha lo Oct 21 04:18PM -0800
One of the most powerful concrete actions coming out of the Occupy
movement is coming this Nov 5. This is when people are encouraged to
move their money out of the big banks and into non-profit credit unions.
100,000 people doing this simultaneously around the world can lead to
1 billion dollars suddenly shifting out of the big banks and into
local credit unions! The big banks might well be worried now. And
local communities really benefit because credit unions reinvest money
into their communities
It's an interesting action because it doesn't actually require any
legislation to be passed to succeed. Its actually something everyone
is allowed to do. Its legal. And can also derail the big bank workings.

This coordination of money movement on a large scale gives the public
leverage in discussions about reforming the Fed (which is made up of
these big private banks) and the money system

There is a credit union now on the corner by the light where the video store used to be in downtown guerneville. Do not remember their name yet I will be transferring my direct deposit and checking there. What a wonderful idea. Thanks, Mindy

It's Community First Credit Union. Beth is the manager there and she's terrific. The name really DOES say it all in this case.

I want to encourage spreading the word to your friends and families about
changing from banks to credit unions before Saturday Nov 5th (Bank Transfer Day).
If 20 people change through encouragement from you that could be a half a million
dollars that gets shifted from big banks and moved towards re-localizing
your economy thru credit unions. That half a million dollars keeps getting
circulated in the local community. So the effect is quite a bit larger than
just a half a million dollars. That money leads to a lot more local and
community based projects.
...
If we can get a million people through the Occupy movement to shift their
money that leads can lead to 50 billion dollars getting re-localized into our
communities..
