Help Save the Bronx!
HELP SAVE BRONX. No not the burough of NYC, but a dog. Leaving a potluck at the Humane Society out on 12, a friend encountered a man looking for help - his dog had bitten his five year old and he needed to surrender the pup, Bronx, who the family had raised from puppyhood. This was well into evening and Humane Society was closed. My friend returned to the potluck and told the folks what was going on and immediately two people jumped up and headed out to be of help. We all went home thinking this was going to get solved. In fact what happened was that the following day, Bronx was surrendered to the Rohnert Park shelter and put into bite quarantine with a ten day hold after which he would be killed. He had bitten and there was no way around it, that is until Eileen Harrington picked up the phone and talked to the shelter director. Eileen's from Berkeley and knows the shelter system there and was able to make solid points for the dog - a Lab/Mastiff mix, yes, big, see a photo below - and now we're committed to raise 1500 for his rehabilitation with a group up in Cloverdale called King's Kastle.
We cannot let this opportunity pass by. We figure eighty people giving $20 - we've got it! Some are able to give more and some cannot give anything but might have a friend who would. We've got until Wednesday morning to do this though the shelter director knows we are working hard to save Bronx and has put a hold on him for us.
We also have a chance to bump up the protocol for bite cases at this shelter, to bring it more closely into line with what Berkeley does - a thorough assessment, for one thing, and a three strikes law rather than just one.
Here's what Eileen has to say on her Facebook page (please 'like' the post on her page and if you are on Facebook share the post if you have animal caring friends.

Two more days....
Make a difference today! $20 saves a sad dog's life this weekend:)
HELP SAVE BRONX. No not the burough of NYC, but a dog myself and several others are trying to prevent from being put down on May 31st. Rottie-Mastiff mix, Bronx was dumped at Rohnert Park Shelter by his guardians because he bit a 5 year old (small bite, ...barely broke skin). Bronx is a sad, overweight, 7 year old, who isn't allowed to be adopted out, and thus they must put the poor thing down. We are raising money to send him to rehab (King's Kastle in Cloverdale) so he can be adopted out to a loving, child free home. $20 and you can part of a happy story this Memorial Day weekend. Just send the check to me at 545 Enterprise Drive, Rohnert Park, CA 94928. SAVE BRONX and change the fate of one dear dog:)"
Please let me know right away if you can donate - your pledge and subsequent check will make a huge difference in this fellow's life. He finally ate, after almost a week of depression and being pretty much shut down. Eileen tells me the staff like him and this is best of all: His family, who surrendered him, have been in touch and have made a significant donation. They raised him from a puppy - he's now seven. Below is a photo of a dog very similar to Bronx:

In hope and some haste!

Re: Help Save the Bronx!
Great news from Eileen Harrington: "BRONX HAS BEEN SAVED! Thanks for all of your contributions!:) I will write to you individually and give you all the update. In the meantime, two older dogs at Sonoma Humane Society have been there for over 9 months with no adoption in site. If you would like to help the team to help them get adopted, let me know! It would be great to work with all of you on this."
