Something Strange Is On My Veggie Garden...What is IT????? Yikes!
Hello,
Twice my partner and I have discovered a thin layer of white covering our veggie garden. Both times we noticed it when water was what reveled its presence.
The first time we noticed it was about 3 to 4 weeks ago. My partner had read that brasicas (sp?) like to have their leaves sprayed so he lightly sprayed them down and the next day in the pools of water that had collected there was a white film coating the the top of the water. It was a bit alarming. Our garden is strictly organic so pesticides are not the cause.
The last time we noticed it was yesterday. He had cut a large bunch of kale and I was cleaning them off in a bucket with the garden sprayer turned on high. As I was doing this the craziness thing happened; a mass of white filmy stuff started coming off of the kale.
Does anyone know for sure what this is? It was on all of our plans just more visible on the greens. We have our suspicions but we're hoping we're wrong.
Also if someone knows of a place to get water tested please share the contact info. I have collected a jar of water that contains the material and i'd really like to get it tested.
The photo only shows a bit of the white material as most of it came of with the washing.
**privately a wacco user suggested it could be pollen but wouldn't pollen be yellow? This was a white filmy residue.
Thanks

It's fine.
At Laguna Farm we wash the kale and other brassicas in large wash-tanks. When we pull the greens out, a thin layer of white film is floating on the top of the water. It is a sort of wax that the vegetables create themselves. Totally normal, natural and fine.
Eat well!

The picture caused me to think of the things I call "spit bugs", which surround themselves in foamy stuff which hides the little green bugs that make the foam. I was told they are a kind of aphid. Can rinse them off and crush the bugs by hand. Azatrol could also work. Blessings, Mindy.

I checked out some pix online and it definitely isn't spit bugs although now I know what's bug'n my lavender. ugh! thanks for cluing me in!! no I know how to rescue my suffering lavender.
laguna farms sent a reply to my inquiry and it looks like its just a natural wax produced by all brassicas. makes sense cause on second glance thats exactly what it looks like. whew! nothing to worry about.

Exactly, what a relief! Cause I was gonna go for, "Nanite mind control ingestible implants and RFD GPS tracking devices spread by chemtrail dispersion". But I didn't want people to think I was being too snarky...

haha, that's hilarious! love it and i love snarky too! i'd much prefer a bit of wax than all that craziness.
