Sebastopol Vice Mayor Michael Kyes suffered an aneurysm Tuesday morning, but is recovering well after surgery at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
“He is on the mend,” said his wife, Una Glass. “They did lengthy surgery that has gone extremely well and he is doing quite well.”
Kyes, 62, was heavily sedated, but is conscious and responds to commands, she said Wednesday.
Glass said they were at home at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday when her husband told her he thought he was having medical problems.
He was taken to Palm Drive Hospital and then transferred to Santa Rosa Memorial, where he was in the critical care unit, Glass said.
Kyes, who is a consultant for Zero Energy Associates in Sebastopol, was elected to the City Council in November.
