Here's one web page to look at: https://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/be...portsdrink.htm
It seems the key ingredients are salt and potassium. Their recipe:
1 cup (8 oz) water (not carbonated)
2 Tablespoons lemon juice
small pinch of salt
Flavoring and sweetener to taste.
(This is for a little over 8 oz. If you're making a quart, I'd use a little less than 1/4 tsp of salt.)
I would try prune and/or pineapple juices as possible sweeteners and to provide extra potassium.
Thank you for the recipe I will try this today!
The recipe above looks good, but be sure to use unrefined sea salt (should be greyish, not white, or it has been refined), not regular salt! Sea salt has all of the beneficial trace minerals from the ocean still intact. White salt is sometimes contaminated with aluminum in the processing, and there are also usually anti-caking agents and other additives. Sea salt also tastes better!
