Cleaning the Environment with GMOs
Published on May 26, 2016
Can plants and bacteria be modified to remove contamination from the environment? Bill Nye The Science Guy thinks so! He says that bacteria could possibly metabolize the oil in an oil spill, and make the other byproducts easier to collect. Comedian Chuck Nice realizes how much money can be made with these genetically modified organisms and wants in on the profits. Companies like Monsanto (or, as Bill says, 'Monsatan') spend over $2 Million per day on GMO research.

uh, no need:
we already know about mycelium/mushrooms that can remediate radioactive areas -
paul stamet's experiments from 15 years ago. best, jude

Re: Cleaning the Environment with GMOs
Yes, mushroom mycelium is awesome. From what I understand, mycelium can extend for many miles in the soil. The mycelium, interconnecting itself with the roots systems of trees and plants, can help feed vegetation some of the water and nutrients that it needs. This is fascinating and should be researched and implemented extensively long before any GMOs are used.
