Protest CVS tomorrow with us.
There will be a protest demonstration tomorrow morning, Friday, in front of proposed CVS build site. 8AM-10AM. Please show up in solidarity with us! I encourage you to come with picket signs and friends and refreshments!
It's not too late to stop or delay this. If enough people show up, we can make an impact.
Let's dream into a different future together, with more trees, green public spaces, food forests...
See you tomorrow I hope!
Ahkua, 7 year Sebastopol resident.
Re: Protest CVS tomorrow with us.
This afternoon I was invited to a planning meeting for this Fri. 8-10 a.m. demonstration. I went to a barn in the Sebastopol countryside, where about a dozen people assembled. I was impressed by those who gathered and their ideas. They plan a peaceful, legal protest on the sidewalk, as people are going to work. This is likely to be the first of a series of protests. People were asked to wear white. Join us.
"We need a local economy, rather than a Wall Street economy," said one participant. "If they build it, we won't come," said another. "We need a well-coordinated direct action to halt the construction. We want to challenge the authority of this colonial mentality," added another.
After the discussion, people began making signs. Some of the suggestions were as follows:
"What Does CVS Represent?"
"How Does This Chain Store Impact Our Local Economy & Autonomy?"
"CVS Stands for Corporations Violate Sebastopol"
"Stop Corporate Bullying"
"Boycott CVS"
"We Love Our Small Town--Keep Our $ Local"
"Chains Are Bondage"
"Who's Deciding Your Future?"
"What's Your Community Vision of Sebastopol?"
Please consider joining us, and making your own signs. We are now entering the second period of struggle against CVS controlling our downtown with their 24-hour operation, including selling alcohol.
Re: Protest CVS tomorrow with us.
The momentum to stop CVS from anchoring Sebastopol's downtown grows. I just opened the following email. Please join us this morning and help decide where to go from here. Protect our small town from further corporate invasion.
PLEASE JOIN US! Corporate Colonialism is trying to destroy our future! Sebastopol friends, please join fellow concerned citizens for a demonstration at the CVS build site in downtown Sebastopol, tomorrow 4/15 (Friday) morning from 8-10am. Meet at 7:30am @ the Seb. square & bring a sign/poster if you can.
Musical instruments welcome, we also hope to incorporate some Theater of the Oppressed practices so if you don't have a sign, just come prepared with the message you want to share. Love & solidarity! We will wear white, tho come as you are.
Power to the People, NOT the corporations!
Hugs,
~Lukas, Whitebear, Akhua, Marina, Jeremiah, & Marissa

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
When you can't stop greedy corporations with the current laws then take it to the streets and let the people decide!
In October 2014, the Sebastopol City Council refused to give up and say their hands were tied just because there were no further legal options. Instead they did something so rare in the political arena, they said we will use our voices and our platform to advocate for our town!
They revealed how CVS has lied, bullied and terrorized Sebastopol, including a lawsuit that cost us $336,000, to force their proposed project.
Although the council decided to approve the project to prevent us from bankruptcy with further legal defenses, they vowed to instigate a boycott of the current and proposed CVS at the intersection of Hwy 12 and 116. Also, Small Town Sebastopol’s lawsuit did win the right to continue our moratorium on drive-thrus, and other concessions that made the proposal better.
