How Well Is Our Community Prepared?
How Well Is Our Community Prepared For The Worst? What Is Our Community Doing For The Best To Happen?
From where I stand the picture doesn't look at so good ...
Please, reassure me!
Thank you, Hearthstone.
Re: How Well Is Our Community Prepared?
Jan, you just won the Blue Ribbon prize in ambiguity.
Congratulations!
I couldn't have written it better myself.

Re: How Well Is Our Community Prepared?
It doesn't matter what the "worst", nor what the "best" could be, no matter the degree of worstness or bestness--how ready are we?

Re: How Well Is Our Community Prepared?
My questions are: What do you mean by "our community?" Does it exist? If so, how can I join it?

Re: How Well Is Our Community Prepared?
In this our case it would/could mean con-united by sharing (one way or another) the same piece of geography and the same time? In a which case one would not have to "join"? ....
But I suspect I know what you mean--we might not even be of the same tribe ...
But, we are here together, and, suppose, the supply of life necessities gets cut off (don't anybody tell me that this is impossible to happen). Do we have stores of those life necessities to last us all here for, if not seven years, then, at least, for two years? How is this store of life necessities, that already should be in existence, going to be distributed? Why are there not, at least, Victory Gardens, capable of feeding us all, in existence already?
Don't get me started.
Thank you, Hearthstone.

Re: How Well Is Our Community Prepared?
Thanks for starting this thread .... A lot could go wrong right now and you're right to bring this up ... without listing all of the ills in the world, I have read repeatedly that it's the strength of the "community" which determines survival in the face of crises ... without assuming future disaster, sitting here hoping for the best might not be the best strategy ...
I came across this video today and the ending of this rant is very valuable ...
https://wearechange.org/why-the-glob...-deal-with-it/
perhaps we should enlarge the community gardens or establish a trading protocol ...

Re: How Well Is Our Community Prepared?
Because
there is no
(or almost no)
real community -
defined as people
connected through relationships of mutual
knowing, sharing, caring, trust and support -
and united around a common purpose.
Or maybe there is,
and I just don't know about it.
"How Well Is Our Community Prepared For The Worst? "
My question would be: If there were a community,
would it know how to live - to meet its members' needs
without dependence on violent, unjust, non-sustainable systems?
If not, is it learning to do so?
Does it have that intention or purpose?

Re: How Well Is Our Community Prepared?
To only start thinking about the worst, arthunter's link to https://wearechange.org/why-the-glob...-deal-with-it/ is a good start.
As to the best, in my opinion, start thinking true sustainability.

Re: How Well Is Our Community Prepared?
Whatever there might be of a "community" here--yes it is, perhaps, learning to "... meet its members' needs
without dependence on violent, unjust, non-sustainable systems...", but at such a minuscule, almost non-existent rate that it can never outpace the onslaught of reality that is becoming more and more life hostile.
