You may also want to consider giving a homeopathic remedy for calming, prior to the event. Personally I wouldn't give tranquilizers, but maybe some pets may need them. Another helpful thing is turn on fans or soft music to muffle the sound of the fireworks. Close blinds or drapes, so the pet can't see the explosions. Don't let your dog or cat outside during this time. Make sure they have some kind of collar with ID, just in case they bolt out the door when your friends come over, or you leave.

The homeopathic remedy Aconite (Aconitum napellus) 30c works very well and has no lingering effects. You can pick up Aconite 30c at Oliver's. Look for the little blue tube by Boiron. Give 3 pellets to your pet (dog or cat) 30 minutes before the fireworks may be getting underway. As a homeopath and pet owner, I have used Aconite over the years for my pets who might have otherwise been in a very heightened and anxious state. Aconite is naturally calming. You may repeat the dose, if needed, after 4 hours. This remedy also works well for people who experience a lot of anxiety before flying. Again, 3 pellets 1/2 hour before take off.
