Perhaps a gentle warning...
I took my husband to the new Sutter ER on 3/9/15, for which they treated him well. However, while waiting there, my throat began to scratch, and wouldn't you know it, by the time I got home I was sick.
I contracted viral pneumonia in the waiting room. Just flying around in the air there...I'll admit there was stress involved, but it's now been almost 3 weeks, and I'm still basically bed-ridden.
Be very careful when going into any ER - that place is full of germs!
On the mend,
:wink2:

Are you sure you contracted it in the waiting room? Usually it takes awhile for the throat to start scratching. It seems odd that it would start so quickly after exposure...for 1-2 hrs.?
I'm well aware that hospitals aren't the healthiest places to be, and I think wearing a mask seems a way to go.
Sorry that you've been bed ridden. Are you taking anti-biotics? Glad you're on the mend.
Thanks for the reminder about germs in the hospital.

Dunno Shandi, Was pretty healthy when I went in. Have been through anti-bios and prednisone. Coming off all meds now. Beginning to breathe easier. Never had something this severe before. Grateful for the health that I have.
And, not to completely disparage Sutter; I'm sure things like this happen at Kaiser and other hospitals. But for that one day, when I was there, I could feel it coming on. I wore a mask most of the day so as not to spread it.

I did a little research, and found that symptoms usually show up 4-6 days after exposure. And the thing is that we may feel pretty healthy up until those symptoms start. Did you get a pneumonia vaccine shot? Just wondering....
