Laundromat with machines unscented?
Hi-
I need to wash my sleeping bag in a front loading washing machine and dryer that both have NO SCENTS!
Do you know of any laundromats offering this?
I took it to the one near Luckys in Seb and even though I used 7th Generation free and clear and 1/2 cup of baking soda, it came back with an odor and can't use it (I sleep in it every night) .
Any recommendations?
Re: Laundromat with machines unscented?
I think you'd be better off asking someone to let you use their machines. I doubt if public laundromats have rules and enforcement about SCENTED products.

Re: Laundromat with machines unscented?
I too need to find a laundromat that has machines that are scent and chemical free - if such a thing exists?
Would love to find a place where i could wash and dry my clothes without them getting residue of chemical laundry detergents and dryer sheets etc..
Any ideas?
Re: Laundromat with machines unscented?
I am looking for the same thing. I wish I had a recommendation for you. I'm also wanting to know whether anyone knows of a laundromat that takes more than 20 minutes from start to finish. I don't feel that my clothes smell clean at the end. I would also consider a good used washer and dryer, if anyone has this for sale.
Thanks,
Judy
Re: Laundromat with machines unscented?
Seems like there is an unmet need for scent free commercial laundry machines. I suggest petitioning one or more laundromats to declare a machine or two as scent free. Tell them I'll give them some free promotion if they offer it. :waccosun:
Re: Laundromat with machines unscented?
The problem is that it would need to be monitored. I doubt if that's actually reasonable. It reminds me of the coffee grinders with signs "flavored" and not. This isn't monitored, and people will use them as they want. It's very tough to get "compliance" in these things. Most people focus on their own needs, not other people's, even when there are penalties, as in texting and driving.
I'd offer my machines, but unfortunately I've got a roommate that insists on using "scented" products. Last week she cleaned the bathroom carpet with PineSol, and it made me feel sick for hours.

Re: Laundromat with machines unscented?
Judy, I wish I could offer mine for you to use. You're welcome to come and check it out. I didn't realize that you hadn't found a good used washer/dryer. Have you posted here and on CL? I see so many for sale and free. Be specific with whether you need gas or electric for dryer. You could also post on Freecycle. I wish I'd known sooner, and could have helped you with this.

Re: Laundromat with machines unscented?
From conversations that I've had with people I suspect there is enough of a need for scent free and chemical free laundry, that someone who opened a laundromat that was totally scent free and had some chemical free machines could probably do a booming business. I think people would come from all over the county to do their laundry in a place where their clothes and sheets will not be covered in residue of toxins and allergens when they are done!
Maybe someone out there has the funds and vision to do something like this?

Well, let's hear it from the community. How far would you drive to a scent free washers and dryers? This is just basic market research that anyone would do.

Re: Laundromat with machines unscented?
There is definitely a need for a little scent-free laundromat somewhere in the Bay Area... To the person with the sleeping bag- that sucks! Try some vinegar and, if you can, hang it outside. But it's basically ruined unless you can use a fragrance-free machine...
Re: Laundromat with machines unscented?
The laundromat on Bodega next to the yogurt shop, near city hall. Has at least two machines that are for use only with fragrance free products. I have used these machines several times and my wash has been without unwanted scents. Hope this helps. :waccosun:

I can offer my washer and dryer - I use EcoWasher which is a cold-water, detergent-free system attached to my washing machine. I would love to have you write a brief testimonial to this product when you experience the results. Call me at 562-889-0075 to arrange a time.

Re: Laundromat with machines unscented?
So good to see a small business being responsive to its customers.
However, it does raise a question... how does one launder clothing and such without the use of chemicals? After all, water is a chemical, and even simple old-fashioned soaps are chemical compounds.
Are these dedicated machines to be used only with laundry products free of artificial scents, colorants and "fabric brighteners"? Use hydrogen peroxide bleach rather than chlorine bleach? How about borax or washing soda? These are all chemicals.
Is there some new technology available to be used in these machines, such as magnetic laundry balls? If so, do customers bring their own, or is it provided by the laundromat?
