about Sonoma County electrical power program
Hi: I can't remember the name of the program that all of us are being transferred to in December for electrical usage but I have a question. I called PG&E and they said that they still charge a distribution fee at about 7cents/kilowatt/hour and then the other program charges what they do. PG&E's usage/generation fee is 9 cents at this point.
So what is the comparisons in hearing that our county's program is less expensive?
With PG&E, they get to still charge on smartmeter fees because of the distribution fee...bummer!

Woody Hastings here from the Center for Climate Protection. The name of the program is Sonoma Clean Power and you can visit their website at www.sonomacleanpower.org to learn about it. I especially recommend the FAQ section.
The generation rate comparison is on the SCP website. Click on "Residential" and then rates. SCP rates are about 5% less than PG&E's.
It is correct that PG&E remains responsible for transmission & distribution maintenance, metering, and billing. Sonoma Clean Power is only involved in decision-making about energy sources for electrical generation.
The Center for Climate Protection was instrumental in getting Sonoma Clean Power up & running. We are very pleased that SCP greenhouse gas emissions are 30% less than PG&E's.
By state law local not-for-profit electricity service providers like Sonoma Clean Power become the default service provider in their service territory, not the for-profit corporate utility (PG&E). That is why customers are automatically enrolled with the ability to choose otherwise.
