Trader Joe's vanilla soy milk discontinued
So Trader Joe's has informed me they have discontinued their delicious and very inexpensive vanilla soy milk (non-organic, and a quart was under 2 bucks!). I am very disappointed and will have to look for a new source. Does anyone know of stores which have good prices on vanilla soy milk? I think the brand I've liked most is Edensoy vanilla soy milk.
Thanks!
Re: Trader Joe's vanilla soy milk discontinued
Trader Joe's said "Our 32 ounce vanilla soy milk has been discontinued due to slow sales in our stores." I hear they discontinue items once sales slow down. Once in a while they bring them back but not too often. I went to Whole Foods and they have a vanilla soy milk for $2. I bought a carton of that and the Edensoy vanilla soy milk but haven't tasted them yet.
It's been years since I bought the Edensoy version. So I don't know if it's similar or not.
I also noticed Trader Joe's is still selling the refrigerated vanilla soy milk. I have not tried that yet either.
Re: Trader Joe's vanilla soy milk discontinued
I have researched over 400 health food brands as part of my work with the Occupy Sonoma County GMO Campaign. In my research I determined Trader Joe's store brand of non-dairy milks to be made by Imagine Foods which makes Soy Dream, Rice Dream, etc. Imagine Foods is part of the GMO cartel. The organic Trader Joe's non-dairy milks do not have GMOs in them but they are connected to the biotech industry.
Edensoy is an excellent high-quality product that does not contain GMOs but Eden Foods is owned by right wing Christians who are in a labor dispute with their employees because they refuse to pay for birth control in their health care package. They are not part of the GMO cartel but I choose not to support this company.
If you prefer to purchase foods from a better company I suggest Pacific brand or several others that I put on the list that we call our Food Heroes. You can find this list on our website. The list is searchable on the website and can be downloaded as a pdf. The list was updated recently. https://ocsoco.org/?q=gmo-heroes
If you only wish to avoid GMOs that can be done easily by eating organic and watching for the Non-GMO Verification Project label. But if you wish to avoid supporting the GMO cartel my research will help you to do that. There is also an excellent chart that is current at the Cornucopia website at https://www.cornucopia.org/who-owns-organic/.
To learn more about GMOs come to our next event on Monday, May 26. https://ocsoco.org/

Re: Trader Joe's vanilla soy milk discontinued
Well now I've tried the Edensoy organic vanilla (about $3.35? for a quart at Whole Foods), and the Whole Foods brand organic soy milk ($2), and they are both acceptable to me.
Comparing sugar content in an 8 ounce serving, I got a big surprise. Trader Joe's vanilla soy milk had only 7g of sugar. But the Trader Joe's organic vanilla soy milk Extra (64 oz container) has 14g of sugar - twice what their non-organic vanilla soy milk had. And the Trader Joe's lowfat chocolate soy milk has a whopping 18g of sugar! The Edensoy version contains a whopping 15g of sugar! Whole Foods brand organic soy milk also only has 7g sugar.
Also for comparison, milk that is 2% fat contains about 12.4g of sugar per 8 ounce serving.
Re: Trader Joe's vanilla soy milk discontinued
I drink non-dairy milk myself and I only drink organic and unsweetened.
I mostly drink Pacific brand and sometimes Whole Foods brand. My first choice is usually Pacific organic unsweetened almond milk. Whole Foods organic unsweetened almond milk is good too.
I like all of the Pacific milks and most of the Whole Foods ones. Whole Foods rice milk is too watery for me. I converted from Rice Dream (and the one with the Trader Joe's label) and loved that rice milk for many years until I made my final divorce from Monsanto a few years ago.
I also like the So Delicious brand. They make yogurt, ice cream, creamer, and several non-dairy milks that are delicious an all from coconut milk and other non-dairy sources. They make my favorite chocolate milk from coconut milk that is extremely delicious but full of sugar and not organic. It is very chocolatey, thick, and yummy.

Emerald

Interesting! I did not know that about Trader Joe's and Edensoy. I have often wondered about whether or not TJ's soy milk contained GMOs or not, but did not know how to go about investigating that. That is disappointing to hear about Eden Foods. I am inclined to agree with you about boycotting Eden Foods. Thank you for this information and your work on GMOs. Thank you for the links.
