Kindness ((((RIPPLES)))) ~ ~ ~ ~ An invitation to YOU!
Sometimes the best way to feel better or happier than you already are is to offer a small gesture of kindness...
Whether it is needed or not by the recipient.
I thought it would be a nice to start a thread about how positive actions in the world affect others.
In times of stress and change.... it is the greatest thing we can do for ourselves and others.
I'd like to suggest the thread go something like this, use the SUBJECT LINE in the thread to introduce an idea, need or offer.
Kindness ((((RIPPLES)))) - IDEA
Kindness ((((RIPPLES)))) - NEED
Kindness ((((RIPPLES)))) - OFFER
It will keep the thread easier to read and use,.... I hope. I'll start 3 different posts on the thread to get things rolling,
Be sure to put specific goal in first sentence of the post, so it will get read by those interested.
I hope that this thread takes off with the spirit intended and makes the world a better place.
Please share on Facebook or with friends anything you find in this thread that inspires you...
Let's (((RIPPLE))) kindness! It really works!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Re: Kindness ((((RIPPLES)))) ~ ~ ~ ~ IDEA
Would anyone like to join me in bringing good cheer to our local orphanage in Sebastopol?
I fantasized yesterday about the idea of going for a few hours to our local orphanage by Andy's and bringing sidewalk chalk and Pictionary. And maybe some candy canes too.
I have a soft spot for orphans, especially the older ones who aren't adoptable. While we can't take their pain away... spending a few hours can make a difference.
I know... I was an orphan and I remember some grandmothers who simply came and knit. They interacted with the children that chose to do so... and I think even the ones that didn't (myself included) appreciated their kind presence. Seeing outsiders who were not part of the institution was always a treat.
Participants of any age (10 or 90!) or physical ability welcome.... LOVE is what matters. And it is FREE!
Re: Kindness ((((RIPPLES)))) ~ ~ ~ ~ NEED
I need a plane ticket for an urgent medical need to go to Milwaukee, Wisconsin 12/10.
Can anyone offer miles or donations for travel? (Estimated need $450.)
I have a medical condition called "Autonomic Neuropathy" which is a rare condition with many causes that principally come from EXTREME CHRONIC physical and psychological pain.

I need to see a specialist to determine to extent of the damage. I am currently at high risk for bladder and eventual kidney failure because the nerves aren't sending normal signals.
I have an appointment with a former Mayo Clinic physician in Wisconsin on December 10th. He can help me, if I can get there. I am seeing a physician at Stanford and he is encouraging me to go, if I can get there.

Please contact me directly. All forms of assistance and gestures of kindness very welcome.

Re: Kindness ((((RIPPLES)))) ~ ~ ~ ~ OFFER
I have some extra cookies that I baked with a friend. I would like to give them to someone who would enjoy them FOR ANY REASON.
I delivered some to one of our neighbors who just finished round one of chemo today (yes on Thanksgiving).
She fortunately still has an appetite and is staying home alone today. So I am glad to know that she will really enjoy them.
Who else would like some cranberry orange oatmeal cookies? Yourself or someone you know?
Re: Kindness ((((RIPPLES)))) ~ ~ ~ ~ NEED
Here's what I found on flight details
12/8-12/13
$260 6h45 (1 stop)(Delta)
$440 4 hours (non-stop)(Southwest)
Due to neuropathy in my leg and the impossible upright angle of the plane seats these days, I'd like the flight as short as possible. Of course, if I got two seats together and leaned against the window, I would not care about flight length, as long as I got there.
If frequent flier miles are donated, airline rather than price is what matters here.
I DO NOT have enough money to buy this ticket. I have just enough to buy food until 12/11. I dreamed last night that I sold my gold ring which took my friend many days to make. Something like that made with love and tedious hours of labor I could never part with... because he made it. But obviously my mind is wandering in that direction.... I still wouldn't do it, but dreams reveal alot about things that don't come up for us in our normal thoughts.
I should be able to CouchSurf when I get there, so ground transport is the next hurdle which is relatively minor too.
I'm going to guess that the overall budget is about $450 and I probably will fly Delta.
If anyone would like to donate for travel/medical expenses, here's the link.

Re: Kindness ((((RIPPLES)))) ~ ~ ~ ~ OFFER
Anyone for homemade orange cranberry oatmeal cookies or all you happily stuffed and distracted at the moment?
Half a batch left. Dough is refrigerated. My time is quite fragmented with medical appointments at Stanford next week. And the following week I'm off to Wisconsin... hopefully. It just seemed like this could make someone happy and I can at least do that for someone that would appreciate it!
Nothing like this thread currently exists... and has so much wonderful potential for givers and receivers.
I hope it takes off in the spirit intended...... I should have talked to Barry first, but I am SO OVERWHELMED with survival right now that perfect planning is impossible.
Enjoy this long, peaceful holiday weekend!

Re: Kindness ((((RIPPLES)))) ~ ~ ~ ~ IDEA
I think this is a lovely idea--count me in! I'm a newly retired teacher and now in Sebastopol. I have some fun read-alouds (picture books) that even big kids can enjoy--as well as simple but engaging activity/craft ideas. Would love to have others join us--or even sponsor a simple (cheap) craft.

What a lovely way to start the day knowing that a ripple touched someone else rather than dissipating into the sea of activity in our lives!
I'd love to enjoy a good story with you and the kids (big and small)!
I stopped by the shelter yesterday to get a feel for the situation. They have 2 houses with 10 kids each and one off site with another 10. I observed (as expected) older kids.
It was suggested that I return or call, Monday - Friday. Admittedly I am so overwhelmed with medical stuff and the need to travel in one week. Planning is not something I am capable of at the moment, but I can certainly participate, so I'd like to set an intention for December 22nd or 23rd. Say around 2-5pm?
Barry suggested an after-party (something simple of course), which I had not considered, but if others like that idea, then why not?!
~ ~ ~ ~Thanks for rippling back Eller! ~ ~ ~ ~

There has been some interest in bringing some joy to the local children's at the shelter.
As I considered the situation more, it really is impossible for me to do anything like this right now. If I committed, there is a risk I can't follow thru and the last thing in the world I'd want to do is be a source of disappointment for orphaned kids at a shelter around Christmas.
And really... it isn't about the holiday, at all. So I'll pick up this initiative later. It isn't the first or last initiative I've done like this. Just that now isn't a good time for me to contribute.
Thanks to those who came forward and want to be a part of it. It warms my heart to know people out there would want to do something like this too!!
