Dear Friend,
We need your help, and we need it now. Everyone knows that momentum against the war in Iraq is growing stronger every day. This September we have an opportunity to bring hundreds of thousands of people into the streets of Washington, D.C. to tell the Bush administration and Congress that we have had it with the lies and excuses, it’s time to bring our troops home!
We need your help to make sure this opportunity become reality.
The three days of antiwar activity that United for Peace and Justice is organizing will be powerful because they will bring together people from all walks of life and from every corner of the country to speak out against the war.
To ensure this, we need to print and distribute hundreds of thousands of leaflets, post tens of thousands of posters, and make calls to hundreds of organizations large and small.
All of this takes money.
We need to arrange for stages and sound systems, we need to produce signs and banners for the massive march, and we need to secure equipment and meeting spaces.
All of this takes money.
We need to raise $150,000 to cover the costs of this mobilization - and we need to raise at least $30,000 of that right now.
In just the past few days we have seen the power of action. Cindy Sheehan, whose son Casey was killed in the Iraq war, is camped outside President Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas demanding that he meet with her and to bring the troops home from Iraq, NOW.
Her bold action has generated media attention and is inspiring others to find their voice.
In much the same way, UFPJ’s call for a massive Sept. 24 – 26 outpouring against the war is resonating with people. And through our mass action we will move others to stand up and speak out.
We have a great plan for the three days: a massive march on Saturday followed by a peace and justice festival, and then a concert; an interfaith religious service on Sunday; and on Monday, a mass grassroots lobby day as well as a nonviolent direct action at the White House.
And we have a coalition that is both large enough and strong enough to make this all happen.
The one thing that’s missing is the money. So we turn to YOU, the people who are the backbone, the heart and soul, of this movement.
Please take a moment right now and help us raise the $30,000 we need immediately to move the work forward.
The quickest, easiest way to make your contribution is through our secure online donation system. Go to https://www.unitedforpeace.org/donate to make a contribution today. And while there please consider becoming a monthly (or quarterly) sustainer at https://www.unitedforpeace.org/sustainer.

3) donations of $100 or more are tax-deductible if you make your check out to AJ Muste Memorial Institute (mail to the address above).

And finally, please forward this message to your friends and invite them to join you in supporting the Sept. 24-26 antiwar mobilization in Washington, DC!
Thanks so much for everything you do, and for your donation.
