I was curious to find out about options for improving the quality of drinking water. We have Sebastopol city water, which was slightly elevated level of arsenic. Do you get a filtration system or simply drink the water from the tap or choose another option? If you do do filtration, any recommendations on reputable and affordable water filtration systems? It seems like there are so many options, and some of them are very expensive on the front end, or require costly and frequent filter replacements.

On a side note, I find it irksome that we, as individuals, are expected to pay the huge cumulative cost of cleaning up after industrial and agricultural water polluters who dump their wastes in our drinking water to expand our bottom line. That we must now pay to add pollution to our water is beyond ridiculous, in my opinion.
(Note to the pro-fluoride folks: I like fluoride, too. My dentist sends me home with my teeth swimming in the stuff . . . but never before cautioning my not to swallow any of it. As a topical application, it is useful as a means of hardening tooth enamel. As a product to ingest, it is known to be hazardous within the very profession that supposedly backs dumping it into our drinking water.)

Me too! My issues with Sebastopol's drinking water:
*Waaaay high calcium content, which clogged up the filter I was using
*Strong chlorine taste; I currently eliminate the chlorine by boiling water for 3 to 5 minutes before drinking; I'd prefer a good filter.
*Arsenic
Please post any filter recommendations publicly, so that we can all benefit from your experience.

The Kefiry here in Sebastopol sells the full line of Water Enhancement systems from Biocera. These systems enhance the water with FDA NSF approved materials to properly mineralize and ionize the water for better natural hydration.

I used to have a Multi-Pure counter top filter and I found out the basic carbon model doesn't have enough contact time to filter much out properly. It doesn't filter fluoride. And for those who asked chloramines are very toxic. Much more so than chlorine. They use it because it is cheaper.
It was important that my new filter take out fluoride, chloramines, and radiation from Fukushima, yet keep in the minerals. I did a lot of research with this critera and I found Pure Effect. They sell whole house systems as well as counter tops (triple canisters) and under the counter models.
Igor in NY owns the company and his customer service was excellent. He's Mom and Pop. These are high quality made in America water filters. I found the info comparing these filters to Faucet Filters like Multi Pure,
Gravity Filters like the Berkey, or Reverse Osmosis to be really enlightening. Reverse Osmosis is usually the one recommended for fluoride and radiation removal, but has problems accumulating bacteria on the membrane.
