This week David Wheeler, the father of Sandy Hook victim Ben Wheeler, gave riveting testimony to the Connecticut legislature, making a beautifully worded, common sense case in support of new regulations to end gun violence. He ends with an awe-inspiring deconstruction of the Declaration of Independence and how it demands protecting our citizens.

71% of gun owners favor a ban on assault weapons, including 60% of NRA members. We can win, but only if we show Congress that the NRA does NOT speak for gun owners or even NRA members! The NRA speaks for corporate gun manufacturers who will say or do anything to preserve their profits.

I am also not sure where you are getting your statistics for support on an assault weapons ban. The only statistic that I can find that actually shows 73% in favor of an AWB was taken in New York City. This is a biased result in my opinion. I found a Gallup Poll from last year showing that 52% of Americans are against an AWB and tighter gun control laws.

The AWB has also slowed heavily in Congress as of late, and may not have the momentum needed to pass. Biden also openly admitted that new gun controls are not likely to have an impact on shootings.
