Expired cooking oil

Does anyone know how I can dispose of (recycle), food grade oil, ie: flax seed oil, wheat germ oil, safflower,etc which were opened but expired years ago? I know you can't put it in the green bin for pick up. Is there someplace in Sebastopol that can use it?

There are people who use veggie oil for fuel in their veggie cars. But the flax oil is bad for veggie cars. The other oils you mentioned are good, though. Put an ad right here in Wacco in the Recycle or Free section offering it to veggie car owners, or even biodiesel makers. Also Craigslist might help out but it depends on the amount. If you have at least 20 gallons or more, then there is a fair or even good chance that someone who fits this description will come pick it up.

If it's less than that then try to use it in other ways such as water/oil candles, making soap, adding it to your compost, adding it to chicken feed for your chickens or other animals, etc. Google: "uses for expired vegetable oil."

Good. You can respond to the lady who started this thread and the two of you can make arrangements.

Someone told me that if there is some aspect of the expired oils that is toxic then it would not be good to use as a food supplement for animals. Although if the only thing "wrong" is that the expiration date has passed then that is not a problem for animal consumption (only us humans).

If you or a friend have a large composting woodchip pile,spread the oil into that microbes will consume the oil and worms will consume the microbes presto earth.
