 This place really sucks! I went there for years, years ago, & the service is lousy, the help is poor, theres no kitchen at all, the owner is a dufus, the beers are boring & the music is lame. A great place for losers!

I pass this place every day, since I'm living in Forestville since late May. I'm curious if anyone else has any comments about it, since so far, only one person has added their opinion, & it's totally opposite from the first positive testimonial, as well as not being a review that's from recent experience. Anyone care to add their personal recent review(s)?

I have yet to enjoy the Ace for an evening, however I have been there many times, including to drop some WaccoBB.net flyers, because I know it is a happening place that many quality people enjoy. I also know Sooz who manages their FREE(?) Fabulous performance events, including the Trailer Park Rangers (who just may the the WaccoBB.net house band!), Digin (who will also be performing at the Laguna Farms Herb Assoc. party (BBB) that has been posted here), and Chris Bramble (a great guy who I know and I've heard great things about his music but have yet to see! Sorry, Chris!).

It seems to be a great place, perhaps not for everybody. I highly suggest you check it out and see for yourself! The Ace is one of several recent flowerings in the Graton area , along with the new organic market, great new folk moving there, a great new tea house (name?) coming later this summer/fall by my dear an extraordinary friend Jessica, that just might finally break Graton into prime time! (the Ace has been there for a while but with the recent addition of a great free music line up, its really starting to come into its own!) From what I can see: Graton is happening!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I agree, check it out!

I have been going there for the last year and love it. It's a friendly, European-style family atmosphere (people of all ages, children, dogs), and for a pub, the food is excellent (salads, pizza, salmon-burgers, home-made pot-pies). You can choose to sit in- or outdoors and the live-music is always changing and for the most part fun. Their pear-cider (made on the premises) is my favorite, and they have a good selection of international beers as well.

It's a place I feel good about going to alone, and have also taken my teenage son.

You just reposted the same long advertisement again, which probably means you work at the acehole pub. This forum is for noncommercial use only, not free advertisements for businesses!

Whereas I have to agree that the service is not the best, the food is reasonably priced and tasty. One time I waited about 20 minutes for the hotdog I ordered before saying something, only to discover that my order had been lost in the shuffle. It is a pretty busy place.
The BBQ'd Ersters are very good and not too pricey.
The hard cider is tasty and refreshing and the beer list is quite fine IMHO.
As for the music, I've played at the Friday Open Mike several times in the more distant past and found the quality of performances way above average for such.
I ran the Open Mike at the Freight and Salvage coffee House in Berkeley for 9 years so I think my opinion should carry some weight.
I've also had the pleasure to see the wonderful Lemon Lyme Lights perform there. If you want to hear a great band that has a fine accordion player, a highly skilled and gothic-foxey CELLIST (who also sings in a haunting alto), a great fiddler (who doubles on Clarinette and Saxophone), with the addition of a friggin' Euphonium (AKA Tuba) this is the band for you.
A stripped down version of the LLLs plays on Friday before the Open Mike as "Djinn" (not Digin).
Anyway, I found the place to be quite nice. Chacun a son gout <g>

Thanks for the complete, all-'round review. I'd probably bo for the cider & entertainment, but possibly a light meal once in awhile---anything for vegetarians? This might sound naive, but does "hard" cider contain alcohol? I'm allergic to alcohol---I break out in "stupid & obnoxious" so I just don't do that anymore.
Thanks for your input~

The Lemon Lyme Lights/Djinn sound interesting. I like eclectic music with a variety of instruments, especially if it's acoustic.

You just reposted the same long advertisement again, which probably means you work at the acehole pub. This forum is for noncommercial use only, not free advertisements for businesses!I removed the re-post of the schedule.

Let me clear up a few things: This thread started in the Events and Classes category where commercial posting is most welcome (and are free until sometime this fall when there will be a small fee). Since the thread has evolved to more of a discussion of the Ace, and I was hoping, of other happenings in Graton, I moved it to the General Community category.

Most commercial posts are made by people who have a clear vested interest in what they are promoting. People who make unsolicited (or solicited!) posts/testimonials that appear to be just sharing a good thing, when they in fact have some vested interest, or are helping out a friend, etc. should declare so.

I would like Realfire and Moonbeam to state what, if any, arrangement they may have with the Ace. Of course, if they do have a vested interest it doesn't mean that it also isn't their true feelings, nor does it mean that they have misused this board as I haven't spelled out this policy before.

As "Conscious Community" I want all postings to do be done with integrity.

But not so hot for service. A group of us went by there last week to check it out. The simplest food took way too long to arrive. A half-hour for a simple salad, an hour for a medium pizza! We chose to eat on the patio to get away from the bar/pool table/loud recorded music---they were kind enough to cut the canned music to the patio most of the time we were there---but we ended up downwind of all the smokers out there. We were eight in the group; I think that none of us will return.

hello community ,
i have been asked to clarify my relationship with Ace.
I go there , I love it , there are many friends there and once I got a hamburger for helping out .......that is the extent of my interest.
thanks

as far as the comments about the delay in getting food , I did not notice anyone who explained that ACE is busy and there are only a few people who cook

i am sure that the wait was worth it and the server was excellent

again , to me , the food , the service , the ambiance , the prices and the people rock

that is all

I forgot to mention that at the time that we waited over a hour to be served part of the meal---a medium pizza--, there were only two other people eating, and they arrived after our group.

I'm responding to this from the Ace in the Hole Pub. I'm Sooz and I work as the Event and Music Coordinator and do the booking for the pub. I've been doing the music here since January.

I'm not sure how long ago you frequented the Ace, but we'd love to invite you back to see how things have changed. The 'dufus' owner would like to shake yer hand.

We are taking note that the food takes too long to get to the table. We've been understaffed, but we think we have a handle on it now.

We have a new patio Barbeque Shack and a steal of a deal price for excellent Fish n' Chips. Our hard ciders are the best in America and made right here on the premises. We have a wide selection of quality beers. We have started stocking a lot more local wines, meade, grappa and brandy.

The customers are easy going and a pleasure to share a table with. We're happy to be known as a place you can bring the family, come alone as a single woman and feel safe, get a water dish for your dog and have a good dance in the middle of the afternoon!

The Open Mics on Friday and Monday are great. The level of talented musicians in this county is astounding, and we are happy and grateful to host them here.

We welcome any comments on how to improve your visit to Ace in the Hole Pub.

Thank you,
Sooz:)

Since moving to the area a few months ago...I have gone to the Ace several times. IMHO...I don't care for the food, but don't hate it either. To sit and have a beer, cider and a burger is fine. It doesn't rate as "the place to eat" for me. That being said...I love the place for the music, atmoshere and fun. I can take my laptop and work during the day (they have WIFI) or go and feel totally at ease and part of the community on a Friday night while listening to local talent.
:)

I vote for giving it a try. Day time for a bite on the patio or Friday nite open mike...I think it is a casual place to go. I will keep going.
