This week on Seriously Now, In Depth:
Kids on the Sun Valley Elementary “Green Team” have set up a petition on Change.org to ask Crayola to create a recycling solution for all of their dried up plastic markers. Field correspondents, Cynthia Abbott and Jill Lessard, winners of this week’s news video contest, tell the touching story.
Candidates Jared Huffman and Dan Roberts talked with Peter B Collins and Lawrence Strick and answer questions in a debate style format. Part of this discussion is presented on today’s show. The rest can be seen on Marin Voices.
After losing more than half of long-distance income to online phone services like Skype, AT&T and Verizon have been behind the rapid passing of California Senate Bill 1161, in both the Assembly and the Senate in California. The “phone deregulation, or “Voice Over Internet Protocol” bill has been enacted in 26 states and is one of the model bills created at ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council).
Governor Brown could veto the bill this week. You can contact him at 916-445-2841 or online at https://gov.ca.gov/m_contact.php.
The indigenous people near Livermore are seeing yet another of their sacred sites being desecrated and are asking for help. Seriously Now presents clips from the documentary, Buried Voices, which tells their story. Seriously Now’s director, Eric Morey, is also an animator in his spare time. Today’s end credits feature two of his delightful animations.
Seriously Now is an all-volunteer project at Marin TV. Please feel free to forward this email to anyone who may be interested.
Please contact us if you’d like to become a Seriously Now underwriter or to send a tax-deductible donation to help continue this project.
