Below is an email from Marc Armstrong, a MoveOn member who created a petition on SignOn.org, the nonprofit site that allows anyone to start their own online petition.

Dear Sebastopol MoveOn member,
Sandy Weill, one of the chief architects of the financial crisis, is being given an honorary degree from Sonoma State University simply because he is donating $12 million of his ill-gotten money to the university.
This is a complete outrage and an affront to the independence of higher education. Mr. Weill was one of the main proponents of the repeal of Glass-Steagall (a key law resulting from the Great Depression that separated community banking from investment speculation) and was instrumental in the creation of the subprime mortgage and student loan crises.
For giving $12 million to SSU, he is being 'honored' with a doctorate in humane letters. SSU prides itself on teaching the values of democracy, social justice, and the rule of law. This honorary degree given to a Wall Street fat cat puts all that to shame.
That's why I created a petition on SignOn.org to Ruben Arminana, president of Sonoma State University, which says:
Revoke the honorary degree being given to Sandy Weill, former CEO of Citigroup.
