RE: SB 1338 - Support

...I support SB 1338, Senator Kehoe's Safe and Early Access bill, which would ensure women receive comprehensive reproductive health care from local providers they know and trust. SB 1338 will do this by allowing Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) and Physician Assistants (PAs), to provide early safe abortion care, under the terms of their licenses.

SB 1338 is critically important to improving women's reproductive health access in California. The lack of access to an abortion provider in their home community forces many women to delay care and, in so doing, has created additional barriers to safe and early procedures. By allowing NPs, CNMs and PAs to perform safe, early abortion care under the terms of their licenses, SB 1338 will help to ensure that women across California have access to comprehensive reproductive health care.

California has been a beacon in respecting and supporting women's childbearing decisions while other states are enacting far-reaching restrictions on access to contraception and abortion.

California should continue its leadership in protecting women's health by passing SB 1338 and ensuring women access to safe and early care in their own communities.
