Western Somona County Historical Society has recently published a new website that will allow readers to view upcoming events, historical features, photographs, and videos about this area, according to Wayne Wieseler, volunteer at Historical Society in Sebastopol.

Wieseler said that the Historical Society wanted a more contemporary look and feel that would excite people about the area’s history. The new site capitalized on current website functionality including slideshows and videos as well as blogging and fill-in forms. The front page of the website will be ever changing with upcoming events and news from the Historical Society.

The new website took nearly volunteer 200 hours to complete. Erin Sheffied and Evelyn McClure added and edited content for the site. They have been volunteers at the Historical Society for a number of years, and intimately involved in setting the direction and programming for the group.

Individuals will be able to subscribe to periodic announcements via email to keep them abreast of upcoming events in the area.

In the near future, people will be able to query a large historical archive of thousands of images and information from the past. It will be a valuable tool for individuals who are researching their genealogy and the history of western Sonoma County. In addition to this, shoppers will be able to purchase merchandise online from the Historical Society’s Gift Shop.
