The concern that hydraulic fracturing of shale formations to extract natural gas is contaminating groundwater is overstated, claims a new report.
Researchers reviewing the available data in the US found nothing to suggest "fracking" had a unique problem.
Rather, they suggest the contamination events that do arise are just as likely to afflict other types of oil and gas drilling operations.

Wow. Nothing to see here, folks. Turns out that fracking's no worse than any other drilling, so quit worrying.

somehow that's not the conclusion -I- would have drawn from the research, but them Texan scientists are the experts.

Recently when I've flown north, following a connection in Phoenix or Dallas, I've noticed an immense number of drilling pads. The scope of this seems to be flying a bit under the radar; not that it's not discussed, but I don't think it's discussed enough.
