the speech is good. We could use a few more of Al in the Senate.
=========
At the California Democrats State Convention this past weekend in San Diego, we had a special out-of-town guest: Senator Al Franken of Minnesota.
The speech he gave was incredible in his support for the policies we Democrats advocate for -- like his description of how his wife's family pulled themselves up by their bootstraps, "but first they had to have boots."
If you missed it, you also missed his humorous-but-pointed attacks on Republican obstructionists -- like his description that watching Republicans rooting against America's economic recovery in order to hurt President Obama is like watching somebody rooting for the dealer in blackjack.
The whole speech is worth watching -- and we have it on video. Click here to watch Al Franken's convention speech (https://blog.cadem.org/?p=1247&msource=20120214em&tr=y&auid=10295784).

I try not to read the DC papers. Frankly, I couldn’t care less who got promoted at some consulting firm or what the soup of the day is in the Senate cafeteria (unless it’s the lentil soup, which is delicious).
But people keep sending me this article from Roll Call (https://www.rollcall.com/issues/57_91/Senate-Democrats-Rally-to-Save-Seats-212153-1.html?pos=htmbtxt) talking about, well, you.
Remember all those emails I’ve been sending you asking for your help (by which I mean money) -- not for me, but for my Democratic colleagues? Well, you’ve responded -- and they’ve noticed. And I just wanted to write to thank you for being so generous.
You see, when you guys show up in force to help another progressive, it doesn’t just help them -- it helps me, too. When I get up to argue for policies that would help working families, or to urge my colleagues to stand strong against Republican pressure, people know that it’s not just me talking. It’s all of you, too -- a powerful and motivated progressive team ready to do the hard work it takes to move this country forward.
So thank you for raising your voices in support of progressive candidates and causes. You’re being heard loud and clear.
I’ll be in touch soon -- we have even more work to do. But for now: THANK YOU!
