California Mentor, the state's largest Family Home Agency, has been providing services and supports to adults with developmental disabilities since 1997. </SPAN></SPAN>OPEN YOUR HEART & HOME TO AN ADULT W/DISABILITIES, AND EARN A COMPETITIVE (non-taxable) MONTHLY STIPEND. </SPAN></SPAN>

We have IMMEDIATE NEED FOR MENTOR HOMES ALL OVER SONOMA COUNTY, INCLUDING PETALUMA AND ROHNERT PARK! We have clients waiting for placements!

Our “Mentors” come from all walks of life including retired people, couples, singles and families with children, and they come from all ethnic groups and backgrounds. Our program is perfect for people who work part-time, have a home business or who want the flexibility of being a caregiver in their own home. As an independent contractor caring for an adult with developmental disabilities in your own home or apartment, you will have most of your daytime hours to yourself, while truly making a difference in someone's life!

Professional caregiving experience is not necessary – but a desire to learn new skills is! </SPAN></SPAN>We especially welcome Teachers, RN's, LVN's, CNA's, Psych-Techs, Day Program workers, etc. In order to qualify, you must:</SPAN></SPAN>

be at least 21 years of age</SPAN></SPAN>
have one (or two) extra bedroom(s) in your home or apartment (Please note that you need a separate basic furnished bedroom for each client, with a maximum of 2 clients per home)</SPAN></SPAN>
have a clear criminal background</SPAN></SPAN>
have access to an insured car (with a CA Drivers License) </SPAN></SPAN>
MENTORS ARE CONSIDERED SELF-EMPLOYED, AND THE MONTHLY STIPENDS ARE NON-TAXABLE INCOME! The stipends range from approx. $1,100 to $3,000 per client/month depending on the level of care needed.

If you would like more information about our program at California MENTOR, please contact Stefanie Glick at (707) 545-6261 x2510.</SPAN>

Thank you for explaining the program to me on the phone the other day. What a pity that
--despite the gap i imagine exists between client population need and qualified care-givers
--a mentor must already be able to rent a qualifying apartment and can't be certified first
and then advanced enough money to rent a two-bedroom apartment! Frankly, i was shocked
that a social service agency would exclude workers on the basis of income. Would you give us
the mailing address of The Mentor Network so that those of us who wish to do so may urge them
to reconsider that policy? Thanks again.
