Happy New Year, Sebastopol!
Hope 2012 will be a prosperous and productive year for you. Let's all bike, walk and run more in 2012. I recently discovered the Analy Track is a great place to run and walk. I've started running a mile, then walking a mile. Come out and get some exercise.
On Wednesday, January 25, I will host my Neighborhood Representatives Meeting at the Library Forum Room, 6:30 - 8:00pm. It will be an "Open Mic" night, so we will talk about any and all of your concerns, ideas and questions.
The city will take another revenue "hit" due to the California Supreme Court's decision that eliminated Redevelopment Agencies. Sebastopol's low income housing projects were a result of redevelopment funds. The renovation projects Downtown Streetscape and the Ives Park improvements are on hold indefinitely. Hopefully, the state legislature will work with the governor and restore the redevelopment agencies in some form to enable cities to renovate and rehabilitate the older urban areas.
One way to increase city revenues is to bring more business to Sebastopol. The Sebastopol Entrepreneurs Project is working to help local entrepreneurs start, grow and keep their businesses here. SEP has had 26 contacts from entrepreneurs seeking help with their businesses. We are starting to see some results from our effort with our clients. This year we will present an Entrepreneurs Showcase to present the promising new businesses in the local area. More details are coming.
The Sebastopol Library, which is the one of the most used in the county, will close for a renovation for three months which will begin in a few weeks. The Library will provide service at the Community Center during the renovation.
The Chamber of Commerce will present their Community Service Awards on the evening of Thursday, January 26 at the Community Church. This is always a special evening to honor the people, the organizations and the businesses who contribute so much to our community. Please try to attend.
Please contact me with your questions, ideas or concerns. I always look forward to hearing from you.
Best to you,
Kathleen
