Dear Sir:
I’m writing to urge you to see to it that Mumia Abu-Jamal is immediately returned to the general population, with full privileges, as he ought to have been as soon as he was no longer under a death sentence.
It is well know that Mr. Abu-Jamal is not guilty of the charges on which he was falsely convicted and so ought not even to be imprisoned at all. In addition, he has done nothing that meets the criteria for imprisonment in Administrative Custody of any Restricted Housing Unit. Neither is there any need for “further evaluation,” as Mr. Abu-Jamal has been in Pennsylvania prisons for 30 years.
No primate of any species—monkey, ape or human—can maintain his or her sanity under prolonged isolation from other members of his/her own species.
