Carpet cleaning question

With ever-growing thanks to the collective you, I have another question. Carpet cleaning--any huge drawbacks to using (buying, actually) one of those hundred-or-so dollar machines? Any huge advantage to having someone come in and do it? I only have one room carpeted, so it's a lot of money for the usual minimum charge.

I have Bill at Red Hot Carpet Care do my carpets. He can do chemical free, they dry quickly and he is pretty reasonable. Just tell him the sq ft of the area you need cleaned if you call him. 478-9810. I think he works out of Sebastopol.
