We are off to a great start, after only 24 hours we are more than 25% of the way to our 5,000 signature requirement. If we can reach 5,000 signers by October 26, White House staff will review our petition, ensure it's sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response.
While our numbers after the first day are great, they could have been better. Unfortunately, many of you had problems with the White House's petition website and were unable to sign-up. We have been told that the White House is currently working to improve their petition system. For those of you who had this problem, we thank you for your patience and urge you to please try again. This petition is too important an opportunity to miss because of technical problems.
To help supporters sign the petition as quickly as possible, we have created step-by-step instructions:

2) Below the text and number of signers, click "Create an Account"
3) A blue box should pop up on your screen. If it does not, check to see that you don't have a pop-up blocker enabled.
4) Enter the information requested (First/Last Name, Email Address, Zip Code); type in the 2 words at the bottom, with a space in between.
5) Click "Register"
6) Go to the email account you registered with and check for a verification email from Whitehouse.gov
7) Click on the website link given. This will take you back to the petition page. If the link doesn't work, then cut and paste it into your web browser's address bar and hit enter.
8) If the "Sign the Petition" button is not active, you may need to sign out and then sign back in using the password given in the verification email. Once you are signed in, you will be able to sign the petition.
