Hello Sebastopol,

This morning I realized that most of 2011 went by in a flash. My commitment for the last few months of this year is to enjoy what is left of the summer we did not have, and a beautiful fall which has already started. It's almost time for the rain to start and my roses did not recover from all of the rain in the spring!

The City Council meeting is Tuesday, September 6. We will congratulate and greet our new Fire Chief, Bill Braga. We will miss Chief Zanzi, and hope he enjoys his retirement. Thanks to John for building such a dedicated crew and efficient fire department to serve Sebastopol.

A Council resolution that will vacate Barnes Avenue is on the Council agenda. Upon approval of this resolution, the plan is to relocate the street a block south which will place it next to the Benedetti Tire building. The expense of this relocation will be the responsibility of the developer of the Pellini property.

I will present an agenda item to allow the redwood/concrete benches on South Main Street to be painted. The downtown merchants are discussing several ideas to brighten Main Street, and these benches can certainly use some paint. Volunteers have stepped up to help with the project, if approved, and we will be asking for contributions of primer and paint from our local businesses.

Beginning Thursday, there will be a non stop schedule of events. The Sebastopol Entrepreneurs Project will be hosted by O'Reilly Media at their campus to celebrate our progress in helping small businesses. Friday, the Art Center will host their "Hats Off to Art" annual gala and auction, and I will be wearing a fantastic hat I purchased from a local artist. On Saturday, visit the annual Sunrise Rotary Cajun Festival at Ives Park and dance all day. And last, but not least, on Sunday, the Laguna Foundation will host their "Garden Art Gala." Try and visit some or all of these events. These organizations are all committed to making Sebastopol a great place to live with a thriving economy.

Hope to see you at the Council meeting.

Kathleen
