I am doing research for a course I will be teaching at Dominican Univ. in the fall called "U.S. Environmental History." Among those that I have been re-reading has been Aldo Leopold, who encouraged us to "think like a mountain" and wrote about developing a "land ethic." Though the struggle against leaf blowers may seem trivial to some, the following quote helps put it in a wider and deeper context.

The national media is starting to give more attention to the growing struggle against the highly-polluting machine and major TV coverage may occur during October. Stay tuned.

"Civilization has so cluttered this elemental man-earth relationship with gadgets and middlemen that awareness of it is growing dim. We fancy that industry supports us, forgetting what supports industry."
— Aldo Leopold (A Sand County Almanac)
