Preface May I humbly suggest that you print this article to read it; removing the mechanical device as the intermediary for your engagement in this piece. Placing yourself in nature would be the ideal. You are invited to highlight it , write your feelings in the margins, or possibly cut into strips those aspects that inspire you to place in your home as sweet reminders of who you want to be.

Fear=False Evidence Appearing Real

Fear, a word often used without examination. Fear, a perceived emotional or mental state, believed without any real introspection. There has been a question that has weaved itself throughout human history. Why am I afraid?

It is my intention with this article to beckon your heart and mind to a place of authentic contemplation into the nature of fear, caution, and courage. It is my hypothesis that you and I will be widened in our understanding of fear as a result of this article .We will feel more empowered with previously untouched options as to how our being might operate in a myriad of circumstance. Caution will gift us with the time to pause in our desire to be automated by past action and reaction. Courage will bless us by unearthing innocence and delicious ways of meeting our moments, meeting each other, and meeting our world.

My prayer is that we get deep, real deep, exploring our opinions. The ones we have about others, our world, and ourselves. Sometimes it is those beliefs that create a contamination of our reality. If it is true that all which has ever been made manifest here on earth holds absolute perfection within it, than WE are writing the book, the script, and the movie. Maybe we could get a little empty, here and now, and maybe another vision will captivate us; moving us from fear to caution and from caution to courage.

Sometimes when I look at the amount of fears we harbor, I wonder how we have space for joy. Fear of God, fear of each other, fear of the sun, fear of our government, fear of political leaders, fear of terrorism, fear of poverty, fear of public schools, fear of the earth, fear of disease, fear of nuclear destruction, fear of living, fear of dying, fear of being alone, fear of intimacy, fear of our food, fear of our own heart, mind, and soul potential.

If I were to attempt to umbrella all of these fears, I would say they revolve and rotate around of the fear of the unknown. According to spiritual wisdom, if we could truly understand the “inners” of all these frights, somehow we would find love. It is said that to earnestly know anything, it to love it. It is only the thoughts we think that scare and imprison us. Visualize a kaleidoscope. How many images are offered with each small orbit of your hand? How many possible truths could be unveiled if we turn ourselves now and again?

Fear contracts the heart. We may eat right, we may handle money right, and we may care for our bodies’ right.However, if fear is the catalyst to the way we do things “rightly” than it is safe to say that our heart’s will still grow smaller, the body might still become ill ,and the money will not satisfy our longing to feel connected . If our right deeds are still tipping the humanity scale than nature will seek its inherent balance; the food, the money, the homes, and the cars will not give us emancipation from suffering or immunity to it. We have to make things right with the ONE, whatever name you call it.

Make love to the world as it arises (Jean Houston). Can you or I earnestly say that our personal stance (on whatever the topic) is kissing, caressing, and gently making love to the world and its inhabitants?

If we were to examine fear and love more closely, we may find that they are but a kiss away from one another. I trust that that the veil is thin like a membrane, wanting to be penetrated. I read somewhere that fear is excitement without the breath, so why not ....inhale and exhale. While fear demands comfort and security, love already knows it to be present. Somewhere wedged in between fear and love is vulnerability; vulnerability to a moment, a person, groups of people, events, and our universe. If I am afraid of you it is because I hold ideas about you that make you unworthy of my loving. Who is unworthy of love?

As we stare at our planet and sling opinions at it, we are creating it. Everything we place our attention on will inevitably change. We seem to make larger some issues, while minimizing others. The ones we shrink, we might want to show greater concern about. Fear and the thoughts it produces cannot serve anything. Let us become great discerners with the immense amount of stimuli and information that we receive. Let us now be led by the sensations of the heart and the brilliance of the mind, to fully comprehend what we encounter.

When the mind lands on something or someone, it has already chosen its stand. Does your mind respond in fight, flight, or some other resistance? Does it gravitate toward or away? Surely there is a middle ground where it could rest, maybe that is caution?

Caution implies looking before one leap, using discretion, and being doubly sure. Below are my own pet peeves about places where more caution could be implemented; perhaps you agree?

Be cautious about using cell phones, computers, iPods and other electronic devices. We seem to have put on blinders to the research in this area. All this stuff messes with our individual and planetary electromagnetic fields. We are afraid for the earth, yet we chose to ignore the effects our toys have on it! What if wireless capability is one of the greatest contributors to global warming and the pain of mother earth? Will we be able to think two times about what we know, and then act in bravery, by letting go of our luxuries? Would we give them up for our beloved planet? Are we willing to model a greater truth?

If there is a God, an omnipotent power, a Jesus, a Buddha, or an Allah………………they are all patiently waiting for us to apply a presence of mind to step away from panic and act with true valor toward our current fears. There is nothing to fear, but fear itself. How can I fear you if I do not know you? We often let the media (TV, radio, and independent news please know that everyone has an agenda) tell us what is true. We then delude ourselves into believing that the truth we have found is the best and most informed, as opposed to investigating for ourselves its legitimacy. Why not “check-in” to Our Own Intuitions About Everything?:hmmm:
