She told me that there were some energy imbalances in my body and field and I needed to work with them. During that day there were some Thangkas (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thangka) for sale from Tibet on display. They were exquisitely painted by hand and I learned that it took the artist nearly a year to complete one of them. I noticed that I was drawn to one in particular and went back to look at it may times that day. In the end, the thangka of Green Tara came home with me. I could not understand why I had been drawn to her, almost compelled to bring her home, but I followed my guidance. A few weeks later, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I realized that Green Tara had come to me as a guide and protectress. So, I looked into the qualities of Green Tara and understood that I would need her in this journey with breast cancer.
In Buddhist religious practice, Green Tara (https://www.religionfacts.com/buddhism/deities/tara.htm)'s primary role is savioress. She is believed to help her followers overcome dangers, fears and anxieties, and she is especially worshipped for her ability to overcome the most difficult of situations. Green Tara is intensely compassionate and acts quickly to help those who call upon her. She is filled with youthful vigor and is a goddess of activity. She is the fiercer form of Tara, but is still a savior and goddess of compassion. She is the consort of Avalokiteshvara and considered by some to be the original Tara. Like Avalokiteshvara, the Green Tara is believed to be an emanation of the "self-born" Buddha Amitabha.
My real awakening came a couple of days after my bilateral mastectomy with reconstructive microsurgery, while in the ICU. When I awakened I noticed that the room was totally filled with an intense, diaphanous white light. The light was uplifting and peaceful. I heard Spirit speaking so clearly; "This is the light of love. You are only here to learn love. Remember this...Love is all there is." It seemed so profound, yet simple and obvious.
https://www.waccobb.net/forums/waccobb/ImagesforMembers/Michaela1_400wide.jpgA few moments later, a grumpy nurse entered the room and started to talk to me in a gruff manner. I remembered what I had heard and sent her that same loving energy I had received from the Light. She shifted immediately and everything about her softened. Her gruffness dissolved into compassion and I could relax again knowing that she too had been touched by the love. I was amazed that Green Tara showed up even in the ICU.
Throughout the past year, after the very long and complex recovery from surgery, Green Tara has lived over our bed. I prayed to her for the strength to be patient with the long recovery, which required me to be totally dependent on friends and family for more than 6 weeks. There were times when I felt like all of me was unraveling as I could no longer do for others, but could only rely on them and receive their love and support. Self-compassion, courage, patience and faith were needed in large doses, as I encountered my shadow around letting people love and care for me unconditionally. Somehow, I broke through many of those barriers with the support of my loving partner, friends and Tara. I also knew from my shamanic training that this recovery was a process of shedding skins and beliefs about myself that no longer served me. That meant letting go of the way I wanted things to go and to accept the way they came to me with grace.
In the months that followed, I found love in so many forms. Friends came for weeks to care for me, help me at home, and take me to appointments and to just be with me. I will never forget the outpouring of love and support and the gratitude that I felt. The gratitude still lives within me for my life, friends, family and this miracle of love. The love is what got me through those difficult moments and I know that Green Tara was standing beside me along with many other guides, angels, shamans and blessed beings. May you find the love and guidance on your journey too.
https://www.waccobb.net/forums/waccobb/ImagesforMembers/michaelaProfessional200.jpgMichaela McGivern has been in the healing arts for more than 30 years. She started out as a therapist in rehab but realized that there were deeper levels of healing that needed to happen for people to truly heal. While living in Belgium she was exposed to many areas of Energy Medicine including flower essences, homeopathy and chakra healing. When she returned to the US in 2000 she delved more deeply into the intuitive and shamanic realms and found that the the core of issues could be healed with energy medicine. She is now in private practice (https://michaelamcgivern.com/) and loves working with clients to clear their physical pain, anxiety and trauma and assist them in reconnecting with their true light and brilliance. She also loves to dance, sing, laugh and eat seriously yummy food.
