A blower plan

EDITOR: The Sebastopol Peaceful Air Effort proposes this compromise solution for our City Council's leaf blower ordinance hearing on Tuesday. The compromise would reduce leaf blower usage by more than 90 percent while allowing personal usage of blowers.

First, the city would lead by example, curtailing its use of blowers, switching to vacuums, push sweepers, rakes and brooms whenever possible, especially in school zones.

Next, residents would be free to use leaf blowers on their own property Monday to Saturday, except holidays, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Third, and most important, professional landscapers who work in Sebastopol on commercial or multi-unit residential properties would be required to switch to vacuums, push sweepers, rakes or brooms within six months. Weekly “dust blowing” sessions on hardscape parking lots and walkways are responsible for a majority of blower air and noise pollution.
Landscapers hired by homeowners would be subject to a new “neighbor request” system. If a neighbor is bothered by a landscaper's use of blowers, he may request that the blowing take place during the same scheduled two-hour period on the same day each week, and that he be given advance notice. Then a bothered neighbor will be able to manage his time around the scheduled blowing.

ANOTHER COMPROMISE IDEA

as a fellow abstainer of leaf blowers and OTHER small engine gross polluter "craft "such as weedwhackers, edge trimmers
etc etc etc,and as someone who is also occasionally hired by quite nice respectable citizens to use one, because they don't want to pay for the extra hour it would take to rake, and or sweep up all that ditritus that is GOOD for mother earth, but hard on
neatness freaks....,...

An Idea came to me

why not encourage neighborhoods to create a "Small engines day" when neighbors could mow, work on their Harley's timing,
fix and use weed whacker (notice they ALWAYS need fixing?..) etc??
say Thursday between 10 am and 4;30 pm roar away play hard rock and metal at the same time open all the windows and howl at the moon,,,,or er...SUN ......scare away the mocking birds etc... then SHUT UP the rest of the week specially Sunday
guy with the DULL chainsaw..... also shut up the debate...

whacha think huh? for a compromise sayin' this ban thing doesn't fly since the RICHER folks NEED this stuff?

so they can STAY richer by the 20 it'll cost um to have me SWEEP the sucker?

hey that's a 20, not to be sneezed at... Nico
