Dear friends -
We are entering the most challenging part of our campaign for a GE-Free Sonoma County, and we need your help! Now is the time to get involved, and to bring your friends on board. Read on to find out how you can make a difference.
Below are campaign update, action alerts, film schedule, campaign meeting & orientation, key positions needed (including a paid position), and a wish list of stuff we need.

CAMPAIGN UPDATE:
The big push for our campaign will begin in less than two weeks, when we ask EVERYONE to either knock on doors (precinct walking) or make phone calls (phone banking) to personally reach as many voters as possible with our message. Monsanto and the Farm Bureau are spending millions of dollars on misleading ads and slick mailers to confuse and frighten voters; our success depends on how well we reach those same voters one-on-one, and then turn them out to vote.
Meanwhile, we are opening a large campaign office in downtown Santa Rosa, at 540 Mendocino Ave (between 7th and 9th Streets), to serve as our base for phonebanking and precinct walking. (See wish list below to help furnish and equip the new office.) New (and much more attractive and readable) flyers have hit the streets, and we have an ad in this week's Bohemian - page 13. Beautiful full-color window signs have been printed and are now going up in store windows and farmers market booths across the county; large billboard-type signs will be going up mid-August, which is also when we will have lawn signs. Free public film showings are happening every week around the county - a great way to get your friends educated and involved! (See schedule below) There is much happening, and much more that needs to happen - with your help.

ACTION ALERT: WHAT YOU CAN DO THIS WEEK & NEXT:
1. Staff a table at farmers markets and other events
2. Ask stores in a specific retail area to put up our window signs and endorse the campaign
3. Outreach to groups and organizations - civic, professional, school, church, neighborhood, social, environmental - just about any group of people that might endorse the campaign and/or invite a campaign speaker or show the film to their members.
4. Phone past volunteers to get them re-activated.
Please call campaign office to sign up for any of the above: 823-4410

LETTERS TO EDITOR NEEDED:
If you are willing to write to local papers, please contact our new media coordinator for message focus and talking points: Dawn: 824-1017, <mailto:[email protected]>[email protected] ([email protected]>[email protected]).
We also need a few diligent folks to clip articles from the various local weeklies and monthlies.

GETTING OUR BIG SIGNS UP:
Please identify your friends or neighbors with property along major roadways in county, and get their signed permission for a large (3x4 or 4x8 foot) campaign sign. (or put us in touch with them.) Call us with your confirmed sign locations: 823-4410.
We need lots of plywood – full 4x8 sheets – as soon as possible. (Know anybody in construction?) We also need a few hard-working people to help paint and prep the big signs this weekend (6th & 7th) and install them next weekend (13th & 14th). A couple pickup trucks would be helpful too. To donate plywood or help with painting and installing, call Henry: 824-5049
