Here is what I'm planning:
Bob Hirsch, recent cancer survivor, long-time member of the Rotary Club of Sebastopol and long-time member of International Fellowship of Motorcycling Rotarians, plans on riding his yellow Harley approximately 2300 miles each direction with a group of motorcycling Rotarians. Their ride to the New Orleans Rotary Convention will help raise awareness and donations to Rotary's POLIO PLUS campaign which has almost eliminated Polio WORLDWIDE! The group will be leaving from the Sacramento area on May 14, 2011 and plans to arrive in Baton Rouge, LA, on May 19 and rendezvous there with other IFMR riders from other parts of the continent for a Grand Entrance into New Orleans on May 20. Riders are hoping to raise an average of $1/mile for the distance they travel to New Orleans, which will go to the POLIO PLUS campaign and help complete the $200 million matching grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to help END POLIO NOW. The riders will be met in New Orleans by Rotary Foundation officials to receive the funds collected by the IFMR motorcycle riders.
At any rate, I am traveling on a tight budget, and hope to find hosts for myself and maybe one other rider on the nights in Flagstaff (May 15), Amarillo May 17), Dallas(May 18), Baton Rouge (May 19) and New Orleans (May 20-25). We won't need much besides a bed and a shower! If you can potentially help me out out with a place to stay, or have friends in one of those cities who might be able to help me out, it would be greatly appreciated! I might also need a place on the ride back as well, but that route and timing is not firm at this point.
If You would like to support the fundraiser by making a tax deductible donation OF ANY AMOUNT to The Rotary Foundation (not me), send it to my home address. If you don't have my address, send me a personal note and I'll give it to you.
Thanks for considering my request for help!
If you'd like to accompany the riders for part or all of the ride, and help raise funds, send me a note and I'll get in touch.
