We hear over and over about the greed of the "corporate culture" and how it is undermining the very fabric of our society. We know that the oil and gas subsidies enacted by our own Government allow these companies to not pay their fair share of taxes and thus erodes the tax base that we all share in for essential services like public education, health care and infrastructure.
No news there. The multinational corporations are profit driven and care little for the good of society or mankind. Old story.
We are barking up the wrong tree. The oil companies, banks and other economic giants will not regulate themselves. It is up to us. Who is us? The US Constitution states that "us" is the Government itself as in "We The People". Also included in the opening statement is that the Constitution was formed to promote the "general welfare". So by deduction anything that does not promote that welfare is unconstitutional by definition. The First Amendment via the Establishment Clause enacts the separation of church and state, averting the disasters of religious influence on government for example.
Although our Constitution protects us from religious influence over State affairs, it makes no mention of separation from other "Special Interest" groups such as those of the energy sector, insurance sector, banking sector....etc. etc.
That is why we need the 28th Amendment. It does not fall in line with the idea of the promotion of the "general welfare" to have ANY special interest group, religious or other have "red carpet" influence on our government...so I state that by direct inference that lobbying (AKA bribery) in UNCONSTITUTIONAL!
We will never change the intent of big oil, banks etc...but we can both eliminate their influence on Gov't and regulate them.
This will happen only when we change the actual Constitution that regulates what is and is not permissible. How? Hmmm...
Well we know the bi-party system will never do it because they are in bed with these companies and have much to lose.
What we need is a third party (maybe call it the "Party Of Reason") who presents candidates that at the core of their platform is the "SEPARATION OF CORPORATIONS AND STATE" to restore to the American people what is rightfully theirs, a Government that represents the interests of the "General Welfare" of it's citizens. Once that happens, real and meaningful change is possible.
We can not change our society for the public good by ranting on and demonizing corporate greed and the seedy underbelly of influence peddeling. We can change it rather quickly by amending the Constitution, enacting the will of the people and electing public leaders that will see to that. The 28th Amendment.
